The Institute of Food Research, on the Norwich Research Park, is hosting an international conference exploring the latest breakthroughs in research into better ways of exploiting waste and co-products from agriculture and food production. Total Food 2017 is the fifth in a series of conferences focused on the sustainable exploitation of agri-food co-products and related biomass, thereby helping to minimise waste. The conference will bring together agri-food companies, scientists, consumer organisations and waste experts to share views and the latest knowledge on ways of minimising and reusing waste. The conference will look at current food waste and its uses, and will explore new ideas and techniques for adding value to it. As well as bioenergy, biofuels and biogas, speakers will talk about extracting bioactive products that boost human health, can be used as food ingredients, as well as providing new sources of animal feed. As well as reducing wastage in the food chain, such innovations are also designed to make the way we produce our food more environmentally sustainable, as well as offering up new income streams to food and farming businesses. Total Food 2017 is being held at the John Innes Centre Conference Centre, on the Norwich Research Park, 31st October – 2nd November 2017.

Antioxidants are recognised as important components in human and animal nutrition. They also serve as functional ingredients in the food industry, for example, to reduce the oxidative deterioration of oils, fats and lipid based foods. Antioxidants are believed to protect cells and organs from oxidative stress and therefore act beneficially against a number of diseases. Although often seen to exhibit antioxidant activity in vitro, it is unlikely that some bioactive components, such as polyphenols and other phytochemicals, retain those beneficial antioxidant properties when ingested. Indeed, they may act as pro-oxidants with resulting negative consequences. However, they do play an important role and understanding these food components is essential in recognising how they can best be exploited by the industry as processing aids and for improving nutritional value. Making optimal choices to maximise effects for their intended use is paramount in producing cost effective products. Additionally, legislation surrounding this field raises some important challenges with regards to health claims substantiation and the use and marketing of antioxidant functional ingredients.

The main theme of this international conference is of understanding antioxidants in terms of food processing, nutrition and health, NPD and impacts on shelf life including the challenges and strategies for a new generation of antioxidant phytochemicals

Harnessing the power of Big Data to generate new insights, practices and products is one of the key priorities of today's AgriFood supply chain. Numerous sensors and connected devices are deployed to help AgriFood companies to collect data related to production, processing, and distribution of AgriFood products, referred to as Internet of Things (IoT). Software applications with machine learning are required to collect, analyse, and integrate data, connect devices and guide decision making within the AgriFood supply chain. The PPFIC TECHNICAL PROGRAM is developed over the course of a 2 year period by dedicated members of the IAS Pulp & Paper Industry Technical Committee. The objective of the Technical Committee is "To advance the theory and practice in the electrical field as related to the design and management of electrical systems within the pulp, paper and forest products industry". Our committee is comprised of five subcommittees, each with domain expertise in specific industry applications.

After a series of successful conferences, in 2014 Food Analytics were integrated in ISEAC because of common challenges and analytical approaches, and as to provide a more comprehensive and interdisciplinary perspective.

Annual Congress on Plant Science & Biosecurity will take place in the gorgeous city of Valencia, Spain during July 12-14, 2018 and the theme of the conference is "A Legislative Framework of Science Protecting Plant Health". ACPB-2018 conference provides a good mixture of topics with a variety of informative talks about current research, where delegates and invited speakers have a chance to interact on both a scientific and social ideas. We encourage teams working the plant health research to use the opportunity of science to exchange ideas and to meet, plan and engage at our esteemed meeting.

The theme of the meeting will be centred on “A Legislative Framework of Science Protecting Plant Health”, be it in the food we eat, the plants we grow in our farms, to the trees we walk through in the woods. ACPB-2018 gathering will unite plant science experts and invasive specialists from all over Europe and beyond, to examine novel methodologies for enhancing plant biosecurity and set up an endurable knowledge transfer.

FoodMicro Conference 2018

Zusammenfassung:
The FoodMicro 2018 Conference will take place in the Henry Ford Building of the Freie Universität Berlin, Germany, from 3rd to 6th September 2018. The field of food microbiology has changed rapidly in the last decades and new methods help scientists all over the world to master the challenges of the 21st century. Socioeconomic changes necessitate changes in food production, supply, and handling. Previously unknown problems concerning spoilage and transmission of pathogens occur worldwide. Moreover, functional and novel foods gain importance and probiotic bacteria are in the focus of international research.

To merge these different research areas “Biodiversity of Foodborne Microbes” has been chosen as the common theme of the conference. Participants will be offered an excellent programme, demonstrating scientific diversity and subject depth. This will be achieved by utilizing the scientific expertise of the selected national and international committees, including the members of the International Committee on Food Microbiology and Hygiene (ICFMH).

Neutrons and Food conference 2018

When designing new food products for the market-place, it is of increasing importance to understand the relationships between the structural and functional properties of food constituents and implications on their processing, nutritional, physiological and sensory behaviour. The creation of novel functionalities of ingredients in complex food systems requires knowledge of not only the structure of native agricultural materials but also the changes in their structure across a wide range of length and time scales brought about by food processing. It is the inherent complexity of modern food systems that calls for interdisciplinary scientific approaches to be applied. To explore the opportunity neutron scattering techniques offer, the Neutrons and Food conference started in 2010. The conference has been held every two years since with attendees showcasing how neutron scattering techniques have been used and, often, in concert with other complementary measurement methods including X-ray and light scattering. In 2018, the conference returns to Sydney.
