Gordon Research Conferences

The Cell Polarity Signaling GRS provides a unique forum for young doctoral and post-doctoral researchers to present their work, discuss new methods, cutting edge ideas, and pre-published data, as well as to build collaborative relationships with their peers. Experienced mentors and trainee moderators will facilitate active participation in scientific discussion to allow all attendees to be engaged participants rather than spectators.

BPS - The Biophysical Society

This meeting focuses on the topic of membrane biophysics and brings together scientists with a diverse range of perspectives, approaches, and disciplines including (but not limited to) physiology, engineering, cell biology, chemistry, and physics. The program seeks to bring together scientists working in different areas of membrane biology to catalyze cross-fertilization that spurs frontier research advances. The meeting invites scientists working in all areas of membrane biology, chemical biology, biomedical engineering and biophysics using a variety of computational and experimental approaches. In addition to invited speakers, each day will have 4-5 short talks selected from submitted abstracts. The attendees, particularly students and junior researchers, will be provided a positive and informal environment to stimulate the exchange of ideas and foster collaborations among them.

Living cells have evolved robust mechanisms to coordinate the activity of many different molecules in space and time. For example, cells concentrate specific molecules into membrane-less compartments called biomolecular condensates. Experimentalists have generated an ever-growing list of condensates, which participate in diverse biological functions, such as gene expression, signal transduction, and neurotransmission. In addition, these condensates exhibit a wide range of lifetimes, sizes, mechanochemical properties, and architectures. Despite recent progress in characterizing molecular interactions leading to condensation, how the emergent physical properties of condensates mediate their biological functions is poorly understood. This conference will bring together a diverse group of theorists and experimentalists currently probing this structure-function problem of biomolecular condensates.
