YTM2019 — Young Topologists Meeting 2019

Dynamical Systems - Summer School

Zusammenfassung:
The summer school will provide courses from experts in the areas of the scope of the program ''Dynamics with Structures''. It is intended to provide surveys of modern directions in the theory of dynamical systems on the level of graduate students and junior researchers. The goal is to propagate modern directions of research to younger scientists and show the variety of methods and results obtained by imposing different structures on a dynamical system. It will be a unique possibility to give an insight on all three main events of the semester. The topics will reach from Conservative Dynamics and Hamiltonian Systems over Algebraic and Number Theoretic Systems and Methods, Analytic Dynamical Systems and Thermodynamic Formalism. Besides the lectures the audience is encouraged to have active discussions with the lecturers and other experts.

TRIP 2019 — Topics in Rational and Integral Points

The purpose of this two weeks meeting is to bring together people working on rational and integral points in a broad sense. Topics include but are not restricted to connections to analysis, analytic number theory, arithmetic dynamics and diophantine approximation. The first week will be a summer school consisting of five mini-courses aimed at PhD students and postdocs. Advanced Master students are also welcome. The second week will be a traditional conference.

Statistics for Indirectly Measured Functional Data

Zusammenfassung:
Functional data such as space curves, images, and surfaces are seldom sensed directly; curves are often noisily and discretely sampled, images are subject to blurring and deformation, and surfaces are often obtained via indirect linear measurements. Understanding the generation of the observations then requires modelling the act of acquisition, and solving an inverse problem in order to arrive at statistical inferences. This leads to a host of new research questions, from identifiability to trade-offs between statistical optimality and computational feasibility, which also make contact with signal processing and numerical analysis.

Spatio-temporal modelling central to many modern applications, but the dimensionality of the domain of such data poses both conceptual and computational statistical challenges. These are exacerbated in a nonparametric setting, where questions related to asymptotic framework and invariance assumptions arise. The areas of functional data analysis and random field analysis have been attacking these problems separately, but are now increasingly coming into contact, especially when replication may be feasible. The workshop will bring together experts from both areas to explore recent trends and novel challenges.

Statistics for Topological and Discrete Data

Zusammenfassung:
Topological and discrete data such as trees and networks constitute strongly non-Euclidean structures, often beyond the reach of traditional statistical tools. Their analysis is often challenged by computational tractability, as natural constraints such as permutation invariance are computationally hard to implement. Still, such data can be often transposed into more familiar contexts, whether by transformation, asymptotic arguments, or replicated observations. This workshop will explore both modelling and processing of discrete structures, also drawing in areas such as signal processing on graphs and nonparametrics.

Geometrical Statistics and Functional Data

Important classes of functional data, such as random measures and random operators, are intrinsically constrained and need to be represented as elements of suitable non-Euclidean spaces, such as Hilbert manifolds. The interplay between the infinite dimensionality of their variation and the non-linearity of their representation space poses novel challenges for statistics, at the interface of several domains, such as shape analysis, stochastic geometry, manifold learning, and functional data analysis. This workshop will bring together experts from these fields to explore these novel challenges and future perspectives.
