ESM2020 — The European School on Magnetism: Magnetism and societal challenges

Zusammenfassung:
Like previous editions of ESM, the 2020 School aims at providing a thorough understanding of magnetism based on a broad series of fundamental lectures, while offering the latest insights into up-to-date aspects of magnetism with lectures focusing on a special topic. The topic covered in 2020 is Magnetism and Societal Challenges. The objective is to cover a wide range of fundamental to functional phenomena, to serve as a critical evaluation of the use of Magnetism to address societal challenges. The 2020 School will have a special format to achieve this objective, sharing time between academic lectures and project work in small teams. The School will be an opportunity for young scientists and lecturers from various fields to meet, share their expertise and build a network.

JCNS Workshop 2020 — Trends and Perspectives in Neutron Scattering: Quantum Materials From Bulk to Nano

Zusammenfassung:
A tremendous interest in the fundamental research of quantum materials has been triggered by the recent improvements in superconductivity and magnetism in low dimensions, by the realization of emergent quasi-particles such as skyrmions and magnetic monopoles, as well as by the potential applications of such systems for future information technology. As unique probe for studying magnetism, neutron scattering matches the entire range of length- and time-scales relevant for many novel magnetic and electronic phenomena. The workshop is devoted to the area of quantum materials in all their forms and it will bring together experts with neutron scattering users to discuss recent developments and trends in the understanding of the magnetic properties of quantum materials tackled by neutron methods and complementary techniques. The workshop will discuss current requirements and developments in such techniques and it is particularly dedicated to novel and upcoming experimental opportunities to discuss the scientific options and capabilities.

IWMNT 2021 - International Workshop on Magnetic Nanowires and Tubes 2021

Zusammenfassung:
The 2021 edition of the International Workshop on Magnetic Nanowires and Tubes (IWMNT2021) will take place on September 6 to 10 2021 in Waischenfeld (Germany). Magnetic nanowires are now a mature topic. Although it started more than three decades ago, it thrives more than ever with new synthesis directions including tubes, core-shell and other three-dimensional designs, and an increasing number of investigations and functions revealed in single elements. Close connections exist with emerging topics such as 3D and curvilinear nanomagnetism and 3D spintronics. These research directions provide both opportunities for new frontiers of knowledge and potential for disruptive devices exploiting the third dimension of space. While these topics are present at international conferences, they rely by nature on an interdisciplinary effort involving various communities from chemists to experimental and theoretical physicists, who often do not have the opportunity to meet directly.

Magnetic nanowires, nanotubes, core-shell, three-dimensional scaffolds and nanostructures with curved geometries. Advanced synthesis methods, covering chemical, physical and nanofabrication methods. Dedicated characterization techniques, especially on single objects: low-noise, high-sensibility, revealing structural, magnetic, transport and other features with high resolution in space and/or time.
