Cosmology - The Next Decade
03. Jan 2019 - 25. Jan 2019 • Bangalore, Indien
Zusammenfassung:
We are at a very exciting time in cosmology as we make new proposals for cosmological experiments and wait for the next generation of the already approved experiments to become operational. The nature of data that will be provided by the next generation of cosmological experiments would be overwhelming quantitatively (in the case of large scale structure surveys) and very different from the current data sets qualitatively (in the case of the CMB spectral distortions and polarization and 21 cm experiments). There are also large gaps — mainly driven by astrophysical uncertainties in our theoretical understanding of the large scale structure; these must be filled in order to get the full benefit of these new data sets.

ACAT 2019 — 19th International Workshop on Advanced Computing and Analysis Techniques in Physics Research
11. Mär 2019 - 15. Mär 2019 • Saas-Fee, Schweiz
Zusammenfassung:
The 19th edition of ACAT will bring together experts to explore and confront the boundaries of computing, automated data analysis, and theoretical calculation technologies, in particle and nuclear physics, astronomy and astrophysics, cosmology, accelerator science and beyond. ACAT provides a unique forum where these disciplines overlap with computer science, allowing for the exchange of ideas and the discussion of cutting-edge computing, data analysis and theoretical calculation technologies in fundamental physics research. There is a fundamental shift occurring in how computing is used in research in general and data analysis in particular. The abundance of inexpensive, powerful, easy to use computing power in the form of CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, etc., has changed the role of computing in physics research over the last decade. The rise of new techniques, like deep learning and in the near future, quantum computing, means the changes promise to keep coming. Please join us to explore these future changes, and learn about new algorithms and ideas and trends in scientific computing physics. Most of all, join us for the discussions and the sharing of expertise in the field.

ESI Programme and Workshop — Higher spins and holography
11. Mär 2019 - 04. Apr 2019 • Vienna , Österreich
Zusammenfassung:
Higher-spin (HS) gauge theories involve a massless particle of spin two, that is a graviton, together with (typically infinitely many) gauge fields of spin greater than two. An important motivation for their study originates from the long-standing difficulties encountered in the quantisation of gravity, which impel to explore extensions thereof that may have a better UV behaviour. Including fields of spin greater than two is mainly suggested by two observations: the constraints brought by a larger gauge symmetry may remove some UV divergences as supersymmetry does, and string theory does involve fields of arbitrary spin. HS gauge theories are indeed models of intermediate complexity with respect to these examples, and aspire to improve the UV behaviour of supergravity models without resorting to fully-fledged string theory and its plethora of additional particles.

PSW2019 — Mathematical and Geometric Tools for Conformal Field Theories
03. Jun 2019 - 21. Jun 2019 • Pollica, SA, Italien
Zusammenfassung:
Recent years have seen substantial work on systematizing our understanding of conformal and superconformal field theories in diverse dimensions. This development has been possible thanks to many different techniques, which include but are not limited to conformal boostrap, Seiberg-Witten technology, F/M-theory constructions, BPS quivers and wall-crossing formulas, supersymmetric localization, superconformal indices and partition functions, tt∗ equations, discrete gaugings and anomaly matching, class S constructions, and ubiquitous dualities. Combining the insights obtained using all these different approaches could be of tremendous help in advancing our systematic understanding of conformal theories. Arguably one of the main impediments is the breadth of the specialties involved. This workshop aims at overcoming this impediment by bringing together researchers from these different communities. Our goal is to explore how these, sometimes orthogonal, pieces of information about conformal theories can be combined to chart out the space of consistent ones and to determine their basic properties.
