17th NRAO Synthesis Imaging Workshop
13. Mai 2020 - 20. Mai 2020 • Socorro, NM, Vereinigte Staaten
The 17th Synthesis Imaging Workshop will be held on 13 - 20 May 2020 at NRAO and New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMT) in Socorro, New Mexico. The workshop will comprise of a week of lectures on aperture synthesis theory and techniques, and practical tutorials demonstrating data collection, calibration, and imaging of various types of data, including new data from the Jansky VLA, ALMA and the VLBA. The workshop will be delivered at a level appropriate for graduate students in astrophysics.
Michigan Cosmology Summer School
01. Jun 2020 - 05. Jun 2020 • Ann Arbor, Vereinigte Staaten
The week-long school will focus on computational and theoretical large-scale structure, while allowing in-depth exploration of how current research tests theory with data. The school will be hands-on and partly computational, so that the participants acquire concrete practical skills in modeling data (and theory). Each lecturer will deliver ~4-5 hrs of lectures; some of that time may be devoted to numerical exercises/calculations. Confirmed lecturers include Ami Choi (Ohio State), Tim Eifler (Arizona), Tesla Jeltema (Santa Cruz), Adrian Liu (McGill), Will Percival (Waterloo), Mark Vogelsberger (MIT), and Joe Zuntz (Edinburgh).

Aspen Center for Physics Summer Workshop: Black Hole Formation, Accretion, and Outflows Through Cosmic Time
14. Jun 2020 - 05. Jul 2020 • Aspen, Colorado, Vereinigte Staaten
Graduate Summer School: Mathematics of Topological Phases of Matter
22. Jun 2020 - 26. Jun 2020 • Los Angeles, CA, Vereinigte Staaten
The application of topology to physics has become an integral part of a second quantum revolution in the sciences. The discovery of topological insulators and progress towards topological superconductors realizing non-abelian statistics has moved topological phases of matter onto the center stage in the interaction of topology and physics beyond the quantum Hall effect. While topological physics has been intensively investigated by physicists for the last few decades, the mathematical theory lags far behind. One challenge is formulating the right definition of topological phases of matter, which is closely related to the notoriously difficult problem of finding a rigorous mathematical formulation of quantum field theory. In this summer school, we will focus on two relatively mature foundational topics, and two new directions in the mathematics of topological phases of matter.
PennSummer — Experimental Physics Research Academy
05. Jul 2020 - 25. Jul 2020 • Philadelphia, PA, Vereinigte Staaten
College of Liberal and Professional Studies | University of Pennsylvania
The Experimental Physics Academy focuses on modern physics, specifically mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum dynamics and astrophysics, with an aim to provide hands-on experience and laboratory work within Penn’s vast research facilities. With time to experiment with advanced hardware and settings, students move past memorized equations to gain an understanding of cause and effect, and ultimately an appreciation of physics on a higher level.
2020 Sagan Summer Workshop on Extreme Precision Radial Velocity
20. Jul 2020 - 24. Jul 2020 • Pasadena, California, Vereinigte Staaten
The Sagan Exoplanet Summer Workshops are held annually and provide opportunities for students, postdocs, and researchers to learn about the engineering and scientific application of exoplanet-related techniques used in NASA's Exoplanet Exploration Program.
Summer School — Homotopical Methods in Fixed Point Theory
27. Jul 2020 - 31. Jul 2020 • Evanston, IL, Vereinigte Staaten
Northwestern University, Evanston, IL
The goal of this summer school is to introduce participants to tools and ideas from algebraic topology and homotopy theory that are used in the study of fixed point theory. The workshop will be centered around mini-courses, both on classical fixed-point theory and on modern techniques such as duality theory, spectra, and trace methods in algebraic K-theory.
The intended audience for this summer school should be familiar with the material in Hatcher (except the appendices). This reflects our goal that the school be accessible to second and third year students with an interest in algebraic topology from any PhD granting institution. The school will be structured around a few mini-courses, which will run in an active-learning style.
