IRHT — CD34+ and other Stem Cell promises: Key to pluripotent clinical applications?
23 Oct 2017 - 25 Oct 2017 • Mulhouse, France
Abstract:
As part of the 30th anniversary celebration of the Institute of Research in Hematology and Transplantation (IRHT), a pioneer in discovery and therapeutic use of blood stem cells, my team and I are organizing an International Symposium entitled "CD34+ and other Stem Cell promises: Key to pluripotent clinical applications? " which will be held in Mulhouse (France) on 23-25 October 2017. Promises of stem cells in regenerative medicine have led to the foundation for cell based therapies of disease which cannot be cured up to now. The regenerative medicine is the most recent and emerging branch of medical science dealing with the hope to form new functional tissues or organs. Hopefully, this will help to provide therapeutic treatment for the patient suffering from severe injuries or chronic disease where current therapies are inadequate. The bone marrow and the umbilical cord blood are rich sources of stem cells, containing CD34+ cells, including both the Very Small Embryonic Like (VSEL) and the Hematopoietic Stem Cells (HSC), but also the so-called Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSC). Their use in regenerative medicine and their study in diseases are already widely committed. The ambitious goal of this symposium, geographically located in the centre part of Europe, aspires to concentrate over 3 days researchers working on stem cells, coming from these various horizons and concerned with basic as well as clinical research. We hope that this kind of brain storming meeting will, at short term, lead to fructuous collaborations and contribute to a rapid development of Regenerative Medicine, which in our mind is a real conceptual revolution in the therapeutic approach of many diseases incurable to this day.
