SPDEs — Stochastic Partial Differential Equations
14 May 2018 - 18 May 2018 • CIRM Luminy, Marseille, France
Abstract:
Stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) have been an increasingly active field of research since the late 1960s. As illustrated by Martin Hairer's Fields Medal, obtained in 2014 for developing the theory of regularity structures, SPDEs have now become a central field in mathematics, at the intersection of probability theory and analysis of partial differential equations. SPDEs have many important applications, for instance in condensed matter physics, chemistry, neuroscience, climate modelling, and in financial mathematics. Many very promising advances have been made in recent years, both on a fundamental level, such as existence results for very singular equations, and on an applied level, including quantitative results on the behaviour of solutions and numerical methods. The aim of the workshop is to gather a number of leading international experts of the field, in order to obtain an overall picture of recent progress, and to discuss open problems and future directions.

Matheuristics 2018
18 Jun 2018 - 20 Jun 2018 • Tours, France
Abstract:
Metaheuristics such as tabu search, simulated annealing, GRASP, VNS, genetic algorithms and ant colonies, have been originally proposed and developed when the available Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) algorithms and software or Constraint Programming methods were not an efficient as today, nor even feasible alternative for solving real-world problem instances, or significant subproblems thereof. Matheuristics 2018 aims at collecting contributions that define the state of the art for the computational effectiveness and efficiency or the theoretical properties of «matheuristics», which are algorithms and codes that integrate (meta)heuristics and MIP strategies and software. The workshop will be entirely devoted to this subject of research and to its applications.

Probability and Biological Evolution
25 Jun 2018 - 29 Jun 2018 • CIRM Marseille, Luminy, France
Abstract:
Methods from probability theory and mathematical statistics are playing an increasingly important role in the analysis and explanation of phenomena in biological evolution, and conversely the latter continue to be a constant source of inspiration for the development of fascinating new probabilistic models. The CIRM 2018 conference on Probability and Biological Evolution will bring new progress in these synergistic activities. The themes of the meeting will be: evolution of structured populations in genetics and ecology; gene trees, species trees and the origins of biodiversity; random genealogies in interaction: selection, competition, recombination; viral and bacterial evolution; cancer modeling and tumor growth. The meeting will bring together distinguished experts at the interface of probability theory and evolutionary biology, and will fit in the "Year of Mathematical Biology 2018".

Bayesian Statistics in the Big Data Era (part of the Jean-Morlet Chair)
26 Nov 2018 - 30 Nov 2018 • CIRM Luminy, Marseille, France
Abstract:
Bayesian methods are now firmly established in the fields of Statistics and Machine Learning and are being increasingly applied to "Big Data". However, there are still gaps in knowledge about the theory, methodology, computation and application of Bayesian methods in this context. This conference will bring together an international and interdisciplinary group of researchers and practitioners to share insights, research, challenges and opportunities in developing and using Bayesian statistics in the Big Data era. The anticipated outcomes include: knowledge transfer, new collaborative networks, new research directions and new statistical tools to address challenging problems in the real world. The themes we aim to cover are Emerging Theory & Methods: Bayesian methodology for big data modelling and analysis; Enabling Computation: Bayesian computation for big data; New Insights: Applications of Bayesian analysis using big data; and Program.
