EMBO | EMBL Symposium: From Single- to Multiomics: Applications and Challenges in Data Integration
12. Jul 2017 - 14. Nov 2017 • Heidelberg, Deutschland
Zusammenfassung:
The current speed at which novel high-throughput technologies are developed and large-scale biological data are produced offers tremendous opportunities for enhancing our molecular understanding of biological systems. One of the biggest challenges will be to interpret these large-scale biological “omics” data and to develop computational and statistical approaches to generate a coherent biological model that will enable us to address novel questions about the consequences of genetic and environmental perturbations in complex biological systems.

GDVI — Genomic Data Visualization and Interpretation
11. Sep 2017 - 15. Sep 2017 • Berlin, Deutschland
Zusammenfassung:
The advent of rapid and relatively cheap massively parallel sequencing has dramatically increased the availability of genome, transcriptome, and epigenome profiling. Analysis workflows and published best practices are also now available to process raw sequence data into alignments, variant calls, expression estimates, etc., in relatively standardized file formats. Interpretation and visualization of these data, often consisting of thousands to billions of data points, and extracting biological meaning remains a serious challenge. In this workshop we will explore a number of best-in-class visualization tools, and provide working examples that demonstrate important principles of ‘omic interpretation strategies.

EMBO | EMBL Symposium — The Non-Coding Genome
13. Sep 2017 - 16. Sep 2017 • EMBL Heidelberg, Deutschland
Zusammenfassung:
This symposium will explore the diverse, dynamic and multifaceted roles of RNA across a spectrum of cellular processes. It will provide an interdisciplinary discussion of the roles of non-coding RNAs in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes, with the aim of enhancing our understanding of gene regulation and function.

EMBL Course: Whole Transcriptome Data Analysis
03. Okt 2017 - 06. Okt 2017 • Heidelberg, Deutschland
Zusammenfassung:
The course participants will use BioConductor software and Illumina BaseSpace Cloud apps. R-coding skills and deep knowledge of statistics are not necessary for attendance because most analyses will be performed with OneChannelGUI (a graphical interface to a series of BioConductor tools, which enables handling microarray data analysis as well as RNA-seq data without requiring programming skills). Computers for hands-on exercises will be provided along with demo data sets. Upon request, participants could bring along their own data to analyse.

EMBL Conference: Cancer Genomics
05. Nov 2017 - 08. Nov 2017 • Heidelberg, Deutschland
Zusammenfassung:
This conference will provide an opportunity to learn about and keep up to date with the rapidly progressing area of cancer genomics. It will cover presentations from cancer genome projects, the areas of cancer functional genomics, systems biology, cancer mouse models and the translation and clinical impact of scientific results obtained. The meeting will bring together leading scientists from across these areas for a unique opportunity to interact and stimulate further integration of these efforts.

European Cancer Genomics research is particularly strong in the Heidelberg area, with three International Cancer Genome Consortium (www.icgc.org) projects being currently pursued with significant participation from Heidelberg institutions, including EMBL. As in our 2015 meeting, a large number of renowned speakers will be invited, with a strong representation of overseas speakers. The atmosphere at the conference will make this an exceptional event with cutting edge science, extensive scientific discussions and ample possibilities for meetings between and after sessions to facilitate in-depth discussions and new collaborations.
