The Internet of Things (IoT) vision is to provide a dynamic and global network infrastructure which is characterized by intelligent and self configuring capabilities. It is based on interoperable communication protocols in order to enable the interaction and integration of virtual as well as physical Things. IoT is generally characterized by real world and small Things, limited capacity, and constrained devices. Cloud computing on the other hand deals mainly with virtual world and has unlimited capabilities in terms of storage and processing power. Thus cloud and IoT are the main complementary aspects of the future Internet. IoT can benefit from the unlimited capabilities and resources of cloud computing. Similarly, cloud can benefit from IoT by extending its scope to deal with real world things in a more distributed and dynamic manner. The theme of this conference is to promote the state of the art in scientific and practical research of the IoT and cloud computing.

Railway RoSe — Railway RoSe: The 1st International Workshop on Robots and Sensors Networks for Railway Systems
09. Sep 2018 • Bologna, Italien
Zusammenfassung:
Wireless Sensors and Actuators Networks constitute one of the staples of Railroad’s Infrastructure and Rolling Stock management. With the distances, environments and costs involved in the domain, a remote and reliable surveying is the ever-present objective of all the actors in the industry. The autonomous cooperative systems, made of highly mobile self-organizing robots, may survey tracks and stations, increase operators’ security in maintenance interventions and scout for sudden obstacles in long and isolated tracks. Such applications foresee technological advancements that consider the fields of both Ad-Hoc Networks and Wireless Sensors and Actuators Networks. As the objectives are different from purely civilian or end-user applications, the beneficial possibilities are endless. At the same time, the challenges are as high as the stakes. Whether the innovation comes from 5G COTS or from breakthrough independent solutions, for railway operations, the networking part of the system has to show higher levels of reliability, compared to the end-user domain, as well as increased capabilities.

Broadnets 2018 — 9th International Conference on Broadband Communications, Networks, and Systems
19. Sep 2018 - 20. Sep 2018 • Faro, Portugal
Zusammenfassung:
The 5G vision targets a digital and connected landscape, where not only people but devices will be connected to what is referred to as the Internet of Everything (IoE). Real life objects will be smart in nature, and possibly virtual, allowing everyday activities to be performed remotely at the touch of a button in seamless manner. In this context, new technologies are required such as connectivity that can transport information effectively according to the application data. However, for real life objects to come a life, these will be animated through cyber physical technology, that include sensors, actuators and embedded software. Where embedded systems was once constrained to consumer devices, now it comes to the forefront playing a pivotal role in the 5G paradigm, allowing devices to become objects, and objects to form part of an integrated system, where different devices employing diverse data formats and operating systems are no longer barriers.

Industry 4.0 is the set of emerging technologies that, bridging multiple disciplines such as machine learning, 3D localization, automation, optimization and many more, is poised to revolutionize the way industrial processes are designed, instrumented and managed in order to cope with the increasing manufacturing complexity of the factories of the future. In turn, 5G technologies are a bundle of new wireless communication methods, protocols and radio access techniques that is currently under investigation to create future networks where large numbers of devices of various sizes and different power and complexity consumption profiles will be interconnected to provide a virtually uncountable number of services attending to the most diverse requirements in terms of rate, delay, robustness, spectral and energy efficiencies and so on.

TWIOS — 2019 IEEE Topical Workshop on Internet of Space
20. Jan 2019 - 23. Jan 2019 • Orlando, FL, Vereinigte Staaten
Zusammenfassung:
Addresses the wild west of space applications, often called NewSpace, Entrepreneurial space, or Commercial Space. It is the emergent private spaceflight industry, with a special emphasis on microwave hardware. There has been a renaissance of interest and investment in space- and suborbital-based high-data-rate communications networks and other application. Since the signal transit times are small enough, many more applications are feasible: the creation of a world wide car-to-car communications network or global sensor & control systems for autonomous vehicles. The Internet of Space (IoS) is ahead of the innovation curve; it is at a very early stage, so focused discussions can make great progress.
