Workshop "The wisdom and madness of crowds: argumentation, information exchange and social interaction"
30 mar 2020 - 01 avr 2020 • Amsterdam, Pays-Bas
Résumé:
Argumentation and exchange of information help groups to coordinate, deliberate and decide. On the other hand, debates often generate detrimental large-scale phenomena such as polarization, informational cascades and echo-chambers, where the behavior of entire groups shifts in seemingly irrational ways. Understanding the deep mechanisms of informational and social influence that underlie these phenomena in the age of social media is a challenge that engages methods from different disciplines, including philosophy, artificial intelligence, computer and social sciences and psychology. This workshop brings together scholars with different theoretical approaches. Its broader aim is to foster an interdisciplinary understanding of the mechanisms that determine the behavior of individuals in a social context from multiple perspectives. The workshop will last two and a half days.
Sujets:
argumentation theory, logic and formal epistemology, including, but not restricted to * Abstract and structured argumentation * Dynamic epistemic logics for correlated information change * Logical aspects of argumentation * Informal logic * Bayesian epistemology * Computational approaches to argumentation, social choice and deliberation in multi-agent networks

IEEE CAOS 2020 — The Second IEEE INFOCOM Workshop on the Communications and Networking Aspects of Online Social Networks
27 avr 2020 • Pékin, Chine
Organisateur:
IEEE
Résumé:
IEEE CAOS focuses on (i) understanding the behavior of OSN systems, and OSN users; (ii) designing OSN mechanisms, services and applications for the benefit of users, (iii) controlling the use, and possibly, misuse of OSN services; (iv) predicting the way information spreads in OSN and users acquire or lose importance and influence in their local and global communities. CAOS aims to provide a reference forum targeted not only to the community of researcher working on networking technologies for OSN, but it aims at engaging a multidisciplinary community of researchers working at the intersection between computer networking, complex networks, Big Data analytics, focusing on network technologies and abstractions for OSN. Therefore, the workshop also welcomes submissions applying a wide range of (computer- and network-science) techniques and tools to OSN for investigating the properties and roles of the network of (online) social relationships in the various sectors of the society (e.g., politics, economics, finance, health, entertainment).

Workshop IV: Social Dynamics beyond Vehicle Autonomy
30 nov 2020 - 04 dec 2020 • Los Angeles, CA, États-Unis
Résumé:
In some application fields, automation will eventually remove humans from the loop, and autonomous systems will operate far away from any human agents. Not so with autonomous vehicles. Recent trends in urbanization are showing that future cities will flourish with human activity and autonomous vehicles will need to actively work with and around the humans. The development of autonomous vehicles can therefore not be undertaken without a better understanding of human nature. At the same time, with full autonomy, a fundamental paradigm shift will occur in how we, as humans and as a society, will see, perceive, and interpret the process of driving. This workshop brings together researchers from a variety of disciplines, including experts on social/behavioral, ethics, legal, and policy aspects, as well as researchers working on other heterogeneous systems that can serve as inspirations.
