HLTCon — Human Language Technology Conference
16 mar 2021 - 18 mar 2021 • Virtual, n’importe où (en ligne)
Organisateur:
Basis Technology
Résumé:
Human Language Technology (HLT) cannot be “future proofed” because the target is organic, ever changing, human language. Like a weather forecast, a static model is only accurate at a point in time. What we need is the NLP equivalent of a weather app pulling in streaming live weather data. Adaptation is the future of HLT: continuously learning models that are quickly spun up with an annotation effort to “crawl”; then adapted to learn new domains to “walk”; and receive the fine-tuning and corrections in the field from non-technical subject matter experts who will see HLT run! Today, models of human language can learn and evolve in the same way as children, and adaptation systems are key to making that all work. Come to HLTCon to learn more about these innovations that will keep your analytics accurate and relevant to your mission. The event will be recorded and can be viewed for a limited time after the event, so if you are unable to make it live, please register to receive the link to the recording.

SDM21 — SIAM International Conference on Data Mining
25 mar 2021 - 27 mar 2021 • Alexandria, Virginia, États-Unis
Organisateur:
Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM)
Résumé:
Data mining is the computational process for discovering valuable knowledge from data – the core of modern Data Science. It has enormous applications in numerous fields, including science, engineering, healthcare, business, and medicine. Typical datasets in these fields are large, complex, and often noisy. Extracting knowledge from these datasets requires the use of sophisticated, high-performance, and principled analysis techniques and algorithms. These techniques in turn require implementations on high performance computational infrastructure that are carefully tuned for performance. Powerful visualization technologies along with effective user interfaces are also essential to make data mining tools appealing to researchers, analysts, data scientists and application developers from different disciplines, as well as usable by stakeholders.

DMCS 2021 — Digital Methods For Critical Consumer Studies
31 mai 2021 - 04 jui 2021 • Lake Como, Italie
Organisateur:
Lake Como School of Advanced Studies
Résumé:
In the last decade Digital Methods established themselves as the main methodological paradigm for studying the Internet from a sociological perspective. Over the years, thanks to Digital Methods, scholars have cast light upon several key and emerging socio-cultural phenomena such as, like economy, echo-chambers, the platformization of the Web, social bots, fake news (just to name a few). Since the beginning, Digital Methods privileged politics as their main field of research -intended as both the politics of the medium (e.g. algorithms) and politics within the medium (e.g. climate change). Curiously enough, consumption and consumer culture received scarce attention within Digital Methods studies. This amounts to be a notable gap, since consumption is not simply one topic among the others that might be interesting to explore through Digital Methods, but rather a key phenomenon that underpins the logic of functioning of the contemporary digital landscape. Consider for example that, among the top applications that dominate the contemporary 2.0 Web (as well as govern its functioning), there are (private) companies like Google, Facebook, Amazon, Uber and Airbnb, whose business models consist in extracting data from consumers in order to deliver them consumer products, experiences and advertising. Moreover, most of the more interesting current consumer phenomena are natively digital, such as self-branding, influencer marketing or brand publics. Nevertheless, few consumer culture and marketing scholars addressed those phenomena by using Digital Methods. Indeed, a more systematic focus on Digital Methods and Consumer Studies means advancing both the disciplines.

KR 2021 — 18th International Conference on Principles of Knowledge Representation and Reasoning
06 nov 2021 - 12 nov 2021 • Hanoi, Viêt Nam
Résumé:
Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (KR) is a well-established and lively field of research. In KR a fundamental assumption is that an agent's knowledge is explicitly represented in a declarative form, suitable for processing by dedicated reasoning engines. This assumption, that much of what an agent deals with is knowledge-based, is common in many modern intelligent systems. Consequently, KR has contributed to the theory and practice of various areas in AI, including automated planning and natural language understanding, and to fields beyond AI, including databases, verification, software engineering, and robotics. In recent years, KR has contributed also to new and emerging fields, including the semantic web, computational biology, cyber security, and the development of software agents. The KR conference series is the leading forum for timely in-depth presentation of progress in the theory and principles underlying the representation and computational management of knowledge.
