Sixth IMA Conference on Numerical Linear Algebra and Optimization
27 Jun 2018 • Birmingham, United Kingdom
Abstract:
The success of modern codes for large-scale optimization is heavily dependent on the use of effective tools of numerical linear algebra. On the other hand, many problems in numerical linear algebra lead to linear, nonlinear or semidefinite optimization problems. The purpose of the conference is to bring together researchers from both communities and to find and communicate points and topics of common interest.

Induction Course for New Lecturers in the Mathematical Sciences 2018
10 Sep 2018 - 11 Sep 2018 • Cambridge, United Kingdom
Abstract:
Through a community initiative supported by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences and the Heads of Departments of Mathematical Sciences (HoDoMS) and endorsed by the Royal Statistical Society and the London Mathematical Society, we are delighted to announce that in September 2018 the two-day Induction Course for lecturers new to teaching mathematics and statistics within Higher Education will again take place.

The Induction Course for New Lecturers in the Mathematical Sciences has been designed by the mathematics community so that it is ideally suited for anyone who is new to teaching mathematics or statistics within UK higher education. It is be delivered by individuals with significant experience of teaching mathematics and will focus upon the specific details and issues that arise in mathematics teaching and learning within higher education

2nd IMA Conference on Theoretical and Computational Discrete Mathematics
14 Sep 2018 - 15 Sep 2018 • Derby, United Kingdom
Abstract:
Discrete mathematics poses a wide range of challenging research problems, giving rise to important applications in other fields such as computer science, engineering, industry, business, finance and the physical/biological sciences. It is a dynamic subject in which techniques, theories and algorithms are drawn from many different areas, and it offers a diverse and stimulating environment for those whose work lies within it. The conference will showcase theoretical and computational advances in the general field of discrete mathematics. It is open to researchers working with mathematical structures and abstract constructs, and to those involved in the theory and practise of discrete algorithmic computing. The purpose of this event is to highlight progress in the field through the development of novel theories, methodologies and applications accordingly, and to inspire future work.

3rd IMA Conference on The Mathematical Challenges of Big Data
10 Dec 2018 - 11 Dec 2018 • London, United Kingdom
Abstract:
Data-driven analysis is increasingly on the critical path for performance advantage in many organisations, both public and commercial. This raises continuous challenges for rigorous analysis to derive reliable insights from data at very large scale, often with potential artefacts and sampling bias, adding to change variation. This conference brings together researchers and practitioners to signpost developments in the state-of-the-art and find common ground where theory and practice meet to maximise impact in the digital economy. It is a forum for networking and to showcase the very latest research in a broad range of topics. Each session will feature an invited talk by an expert speaker.
