ECI — Nanotechnology in Medicine: From Molecules to Humans
ID
738499
Dates
03 jul 2016 - 08 jul 2016
Lieu
Hernstein, Autriche
Résumé
Nanotechnology is prominent in medicine for various applications that span use in understanding cellular and molecular interactions to the downstream development of technologies for disease characterization, detection and treatment. A few examples include systemically injectable nanoparticles for the targeted delivery of multiple therapeutic and contrast agents; multi-scale hierarchically-complex implants for the regeneration of bone and soft tissues; micro/nano-fluidic chips resembling the authentic architecture and biology of real organs. Despite the high promise of nanotechnology, only a few of these technologies generated have made it to clinical utility. It is likely that the limited translation of nanotechnology-based interventions to date is also due to the lack of mechanistic understanding of cellular and molecular interactions of these technologies owing to the complexity of biological systems in health and diseases.

We envision the ECI Nanotechnology in Medicine conference to provide a platform to aid in the mechanistic understanding of cellular and molecular interactions/responses induced by nanotechnologies and the exploitation of these understandings to generate highly effective nanotechnologies for the early detection, imaging and treatment of human diseases. The conference will bring together biologists, materials scientists, physicists, engineers and clinical scientists.

This conference will represent a forum to discuss new opportunities and challenges in the field of nanotechnology in medicine and to foster the development of synergic collaborations among scientists with diverse backgrounds and expertise.

Résumé
Innovations and reforms in medicine and medical practice are global issues. This is due to advances in medical practice and education, and advent of new technology, which is widely available in society internationally in the past three decades. As a result, patients and society in general are becoming more informed about their own health and medical practice, and they are using their knowledge to question and challenge doctors and healthcare workers about their own health issues. In addition, people are now living longer in various communities as result of advances in medicine and medical technologies. There is now enormous need and expectations from society for doctors and healthcare workers to keep abreast of all these new advances. This has resulted in the changing roles of doctors and healthcare workers in society. They are not only called upon to provide state of the art medical practice fit for the 21st century, but they are also expected to take part in teaching and research in order for them to maintain the challenges they face in medical practice and education in the 21st century. Hence the IAES Conference in Research and Innovations in Medicine and Healthcare will look at these challenges and advances in order to provide excellent medical care fit for the new millennium.

Date de début
21 sep 2016

Londres, Royaume-Uni
Résumé
This conference will continue with a focus on the important issue of advancing IV therapy at home, delivering effective OPAT services (Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic. Therapy). The OPAT service allows inpatients receiving intravenous antibiotics to be discharged early from hospital. Patients who are eligible for this service go home after receiving their last inpatient dose of antibiotics. The antibiotics they would have received whilst in hospital are then administered regularly by a nurse at the patient’s home thus reducing bed days and risk of infection, and improving care for patients. Delegates will have the opportunity to hear extended sessions focusing on how delivering IV Therapy at home (OPAT) is increasing and the impact on quality and productivity this brings. A 20% discount is available by quoting ref: hcuk20c-s when booking.

Adelaide, Australie
Résumé
On behalf of the 2016 Conference Organising Committee, I would like to extend an invitation to all health professionals with an interest in the field of organ and tissue donation and transplantation to the 2016 TNA National Conference to be held in Adelaide , October 19 – 21 at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

Our conference theme is: Change. Challenge. Collaborate.

These concepts reflect the environment that we currently work in, as we increasingly change the way we work to optimise donation and transplantation outcomes, challenge the way we think and manage scarce resources and collaborate locally and internationally to establish best practice. We have developed a programme that addresses these themes which we hope will be thought provoking and relevant. We also welcome the submission of abstracts that exemplify these concepts.

As well as being an excellent educational event, the TNA conference also provides a valuable opportunity to network with other health professionals with similar interests, and the social programme offers a chance to relax and enjoy Adelaide’s hospitality.

I encourage you to stay a little bit longer in Adelaide to take advantage of all that South Australia has to offer. Take some time to explore our vibrant city, beautiful beaches and world renowned wine country and return to work feeling inspired and refreshed.

We look forward to welcoming you to Adelaide in 2016.

WCPG 2016 — XXIV World Congress of Psychiatric Genetics 2016
ID
766218
Dates
30 oct 2016 - 04 nov 2016
Lieu
Jerusalem, Israël
Résumé
The fundamental aim of psychiatric genetics is to identify genes that confer susceptibility to psychiatric disorders and to elucidate the pathway from the gene to the clinical phenotype. A further allied objective is to identify genes that influence response to the drugs used to treat psychiatric disorders and susceptibility to adverse effects. Success holds the tantalizing promise of unravelling hitherto elusive pathophysiological mechanisms and developing new and more effective treatments. Such treatments are urgently needed in a field that has seen few truly novel, clinically proven drugs for several decades. We invite you to Jerusalem, Israel on October 30th to November 4th, 2016, to learn what has been achieved in psychiatric genetics in the past year and what lies ahead, to meet colleagues who share your interest in this fascinating area, and to bring your own findings to the attention of the field. Psychiatric genetics covers a broad spectrum of experimental approaches. The International Scientific Program Committee of the Jerusalem 2016 meeting will make every effort to insure that the key approaches are represented at the meeting and to achieve a synthesis of knowledge that goes beyond the data presented.

Good communication and consultation skills are very important in medical and health care. Effective doctor-patient communication is a central clinical function in building a therapeutic doctor-patient relationship, which is the heart and art of medicine. This is essential in the delivery of high-quality health care. Much patient dissatisfaction and many complaints are due to breakdown in the doctor-patient relationship. However, many doctors tend to overestimate their ability in communication. Over the years, much has been published in the literature on this important topic. We review the literature on doctor-patient communication. The course on Improving Communication and Consultations Skills is designed to equip healthcare professionals and students with the knowledge and understanding in order to face the challenges in health and medical practice in dynamic World.

Résumé
NSA are delighted to announce preliminary details of the 40th Annual Scientific Meeting in Melbourne. Since last hosting the ASM in 2005, Melbourne has been voted the most livable city in the world 5 times! Come and see why! We are known for our love of coffee and diversity of food culture. It certainly has turned this ‘Norn Iron’ (Northern Ireland) native into a food snob with potatoes bumped down my list of favourites! So in true Melbourne style, we will be putting a spin on the Conference Dinner.
