Résumé: The Symposium on Plasma Physics and Technology has a long tradition and is usually held biennially. This will be the 24th Symposium. It was originally founded for the presentation of results of the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (IPP CAS) in 1967. Since 1969 it has gradually become a Czechoslovak forum in this branch and many famous foreign scientists have made presentations. Till 1992 the Symposium was organized by IPP CAS itself at Liblice Castle. Since 1993 it has been held in co-operation with the Department of Physics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University (FEE CTU) in Prague. Since 2000 the Proceedings were published in Czechoslovak Journal of Physics till journal dissolution in 2006. In contrast to previous SPPT symposia there was no proceedings in the traditional sense in 2008 but authors were encouraged to send their papers to European Physical Journal D, and an EPJD special issue is after reviewing published now. There will be about 200- 250 participants.

27.haut de la page[ID=294716]Gyrokinetics in Laboratory and Astrophysical Plasmas
19 Jul 2010 → 13 Aou 2010; Cambridge, Royaume-Uni
Organisateur: Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Cambridge

Résumé: In the last 25 years, a new mathematical approach, gyrokinetics, has been developed to treat low-frequency fluctuations in plasmas. In this approach, the fast orbital 'gyromotion' is averaged to produce kinetic equations for rings of charge. This is a mathematically rigorous description that is far more tractable than the full kinetic theory. Despite some practical successes in code-building and simulations, the mathematical properties and physical implications of gyrokinetics are insufficiently well understood. In space and astrophysics, the wide applicability and power of the gyrokinetic theory has yet to be fully recognised and exploited. To realise the benefits of this approach, it is essential that gyrokinetics be put on a firm mathematical and physical footing. This program will include several workshops.

39.haut de la page[ID=303591]PSE 2010 — Twelfth International Conference on Plasma Surface Engineering
13 Sep 2010 → 17 Sep 2010; Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Allemagne

Résumé: The Twelfth International Conference on Plasma Surface Engineering - PSE 2010 - will be held in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany from Monday, September 13 to Friday, September 17, 2010.

The biennial PSE conference series is organized by the European Joint Committee on Plasma and Ion Surface Engineering. With a continuously growing interest in the preceding PSE events, with more than 700 participants from all over the world in 2008, PSE is a well-established and leading forum in the field of plasma as well as ion- and particle-beam assisted surface modification and thin film technologies.

PSE provides an opportunity to present recent progress in research and development and industrial applications. Its topics span a wide range from fundamentals such as e.g. process modelling and simulation or thin physics, through empirical studies which e.g. establish the relationships between process parameters and the structural and functional properties of modified surfaces and/or thin films, towards the application in industrial production.

With numerous industrial exhibitors and an exceptionally large fraction of participants from industry (more than 30% in 2008), a special feature of PSE is the intimate and vivid interaction between those being involved in basic research and those who have to meet the rapidly increasing demands in the industrial production.

57.haut de la page[ID=333023]European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry
30 Jan 2011 → 04 Fév 2011; Zaragoza, Espagne

Résumé: Welcome to the European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry, which will be held at the Congress and Convention Center of the Zaragoza World Trade Center (WTCZ) from January 30 to February 4, 2011. The European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry has positioned itself as a privileged forum for the discussion of the most relevant advances, as well as the challenges remaining, in Plasma Spectrochemistry. The next edition will feature lecture and poster sessions covering the latest in plasma fundamentals, laser-assisted methodologies, isotopic analysis, imaging and speciation techniques, metallomics and nanotechnology, among other topics. A number of selected free short courses will also be programmed. See you in Zaragoza!

The first Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry was held in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1980. Since then, a total of 30 meetings have been organized considering those celebrated in America, Europe (since 1985) and more recently in Asia (since 2006), thanks to the growing popularity reached by the first editions. Attendance has grown from 170 in 1980 to more than 600 with world-wide scientific participation representing 30 countries. Technical sessions comprise lectures and posters describing application, fundamental, and instrumentation developments with popular electrical plasma sources. The inductively coupled plasma (ICP), glow discharge sources, microwave induced plasma, direct current plasma, and laser-assisted plasma spectrochemistry are featured. New spectrometric instrumentation, novel sample introduction systems, plasma system automation, sample preparation approaches, elemental speciation, spectroscopic standards, quality assurance, new diagnostic characteristics, and theoretical treatments are highlighted.
