Organisateur: Marie Curie Advanced Cryogenics Course

Résumé: The aim of this conference is to allow young and excellent researchers and engineers in Cryogenics and Low Temperature Physics present and discuss with their peers and a few senior scientists their most relevant results. A few scientists will chair the sessions, foster discussions, and give advise to the young speakers for their future career. The Organising Committee will choose participants and speakers from the information provided by the applicants in the registration form.

2.haut de la page[ID=150757]FD142 - Cold and Ultracold Molecules
15 Sep 2008 → 17 Sep 2008; Durham, Royaume-Uni

Résumé: There have been enormous recent advances in our ability to produce and trap samples of translationally cold molecules (below 1 K) and ultracold molecules (below 1 mK). Molecules such as NH 3 , OH and NH have been cooled from room temperature to the milliKelvin regime by a variety of methods including buffer-gas cooling and Stark deceleration. Molecules have also been produced in ultracold atomic gases by photoassociation and magnetoassociation of pairs of atoms. Bose-Einstein condensates have been produced for dimers of both bosonic and fermionic alkali metal atoms, and the first signatures of ultracold triatomic and tetraatomic molecules have been observed.

3.haut de la page[ID=115541]Workshop on Quantum Many-Body Systems, Bose-Einstein Condensation
29 Sep 2008 → 04 Oct 2008; Montréal, Québec, Canada

Résumé: The physics of ultracold quantum gases and Bose-Einstein condensation is currently a very active field of both experimental and theoretical research worldwide. Unveiling the fascinating properties of such quantum many-body systems by rigorous mathematical analysis is an important and difficult challenge for mathematical physics. Considerable progress has been made in recent years involving a variety of mathematical techniques, such as spectral theory of partial differential operators with a large number of variables, nonlinear partial differential equations, random walks on lattices and functional integration. Several of the most basic questions are still unanswered, however, and there is much to be learned. The workshop will bring together experts with different backgrounds to review the current status of mathematical results in the field and to discuss new developments where a mathematical approach is potentially fruitful.

10.haut de la page[ID=107244]AGM and Superconductivity Group Meeting
30 Nov 2008; Institute of Physics, London, Royaume-Uni

Résumé: This is the annual scientific meeting of the Institute of Physics Superconductivity group, which accompanies the Annual General Meeting of the group. There are four invited speakers who will talk on a range of topics in fundamental and applied aspects of superconductivity research. There are also six short slots which will be filled by talks selected from submitted abstracts to the meeting. Hence this is a very good opportunity for UK superconductivity researchers to showcase their work. This year the meeting is sponsored by the Bristol/Cambridge/St.Andrews EPSRC portfolio partnership, as well as the Superconductivity group itself, which means that we have been able to keep the registration fees very low (only £10 for students!). So please use this opportunity to come to the meeting and present your work. As an added incentive there will be a prize of £150 for the best poster by a student.

11.haut de la page[ID=140409]FD142 — Faraday Discussion 142: Cold and Ultracold Molecules
15 Avr 2009 → 17 Avr 2009; Durham , Royaume-Uni

Résumé: There have been enormous recent advances in our ability to produce and trap samples of translationally cold molecules (below 1 K) and ultracold molecules (below 1 mK). Molecules such as NH3, OH and NH have been cooled from room temperature to the milliKelvin regime by a variety of methods including buffer-gas cooling and Stark deceleration.

The new capabilities open up many exciting prospects, including:

The study of collision processes in unprecedented detail using cooled or velocity-controlled species

The use of cold molecules in high-precision measurement to observe fundamentally important quantities

The production of quantum gases of dipolar molecules, which would exhibit many new properties

The use of cold molecules as qubits in quantum computing

Controlled ultracold chemistry, in which controlled chemical changes are achieved coherently for large samples using external fields.

Sujets: Magnetoassociation to form ultracold molecules, Photoassociation to form ultracold molecules, Methods for cooling molecules, Collisions of cold molecules, Control and manipulation of ultracold molecules, Applications of cold molecules, Molecules in lattices
