The conference covers a broad range of topics with a particular emphasis on spectral line shape studies including line shapes of atomic and molecular transitions in neutral gaseous mixtures, high and low temperature plasmas, clusters and helium droplets, spectroscopy of stellar atmospheres and interstellar media, cold atoms and molecules, collision-induced spectra, processes in laser fields and innovative techniques of line shape applications for diagnostic purposes.
The Conference includes invited lectures, contributed talks, poster presentations, and round table discussions. Sessions is held in the historical building of St.Petersburg State University in the city centre. |

| Zusammenfassung | The Symposium on Plasma Physics and Technology has a long tradition and is usually held biennially. This will be the 25th Symposium. It was originally founded for the presentation of results of the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (IPP CAS) in 1967. Since 1969 it has gradually become a Czechoslovak forum in this branch and many famous foreign scientists have made presentations. Till 1992 the Symposium was organized by IPP CAS itself at Liblice Castle. Since 1993 it has been held in co-operation with the Department of Physics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University (FEE CTU) in Prague. Since 2000 the Proceedings were published in Czechoslovak Journal of Physics till journal dissolution in 2006. There was no proceedings in the traditional sense in 2008, but authors were encouraged to send their papers to European Physical Journal D, and a EPJD topical issue based on SPPT contributions was published in 2009. In 2010 the topical issue of Acta Technica based on SPPT contributions was published, too. The symposium is of the European importance. There will be about 200-250 participants. |

Plasma science and technology, due to its intrinsic nonequilibrium nature, will be at the heart of many key enabling technologies that are needed to provide breakthrough solutions for these grand challenges. The 2012 Gordon Research Conference on Plasma Processing Science will feature a comprehensive program that will highlight the most cutting edge scientific advances in plasma science and technology as well as explore the applications of this nonequilibrium medium in possible approaches relative to many grand societal challenges. Fundamental science sessions will focus on plasma kinetics and chemistry, plasma surface interactions, and recent trends in plasma generation and multi-phase plasmas. Application sessions will explore the impact of plasma technology in renewable energy, the production of fuels from renewable feedstocks and carbon dioxide neutral solar fuels (from carbon dioxide and water), and plasma-enabled medicine and sterilization. The conference will bring together in an informal atmosphere leaders in the field with junior investigators and graduate students. The special format of the Gordon Conferences, with programmed discussion sessions and ample time for informal gatherings in the afternoons and evenings, will provide for a fertile atmosphere of brainstorming and creative thinking among the attendees. The 2012 Gordon Research Conference on Plasma Processing Science (GRC-PPS) will be held July 22-27, 2012, at Bryant University, Smithfield, RI. Associated with the GRC-PPS is a weekend-long Gordon Research Seminar, which features attendance limited to graduate students and post-doctoral associates, allowing for scientific interaction in a non-threatening environment. |
