Zusammenfassung: The IUCr is the only truly international organization promoting crystallography, and the General Assembly and Congress is held every three years. The Congress is organized jointly by the Crystallographic Society of Japan (CrSJ) and the Science Council of Japan.

Zusammenfassung: Die Rietveldmethode wird primär für quantitative Phasenanalysen und Kristallstrukturverfeinerungen eingesetzt, mit wachsendem Erfolg aber auch zur Bestimmung von Kristallitgrößen, Mikrospannungen und Stapelfehlordnungen. Ziel des Kurses ist es, dass Absolventen die Methode selbstständig anwenden und ihre Ergebnisse beurteilen können. Die notwendigen Grundlagen in Röntgenbeugung und Kristallographie werden im Kurs aufgefrischt. Ziel der großzügig anberaumten Übungen ist, einen sicheren Umgang mit der Rietveldsoftware zu erlernen und ihre Möglichkeiten und Grenzen auszuloten. Schwerpunkte sind: - Vermeidung systematischer Fehler bei der Messung von Daten - Korrektur unvermeidbarer systematischer Fehler in den Daten - Auffrischung der erforderlichen kristallographischen und kristallchemischen Grundkenntnisse - Kristallstrukturmodelle, Reflexprofilmodelle und ihre Parameter - Parameteroptimierung und Verfeinerungsstrategie - Beurteilung von Verfeinerungsergebnissen - Bedienung der Riet

Zusammenfassung: The aim of this meeting is to tighten the relations among the Italian petrological, mineralogical and crystallographic communities, to show new points of contacts and to stimulate further synergies. Particular emphasis will be put on the contributions that an atomistic perspective may give to the study of geo-materials, both from the point of view of their stability and systematics and from their role in natural and anthropogenic processes, especially as far as interactions between the geo- and the bio-sphere are concerned.

Zusammenfassung: The International Symposium on Industrial Crystallization (ISIC) is providing a forum since 50 years for presentations and debate on the latest advances in theory and practice of industrial crystallization. New challenges are emerging like crystallization of large organic molecules, production of pure crystals from complex mixtures and manufacturing of crystalline nano-particles. To address these challenges deep understanding of fundamental aspects of crystal growth must be coupled with innovative engineering solutions. Hence this 17th edition of ISIC is incorporating the 8th Crystal Growth of Organic Materials workshop.

Zusammenfassung: Some of previous meetings were correlated with European Crystallographic Meetings (EPDIC-6, EPDIC-9). EPDIC-11 meeting will be correlated with EMRS Fall Meeting 2008 taking place in Warsaw just before EPDIC. EPDIC s have rapidly become the focal point for all researchers in the domain of powder difraction and are now regarded to be ideal places for the presentation and diffusion of new developments in powder diffraction instrumentation, analysis, and applications. Powder diffraction is permanently expanding. Due to availablity of modern synchrotron and laboratory x-ray sources an neutron sources, to improvements in x-ray and neutron optics, it became possible to study objects at spatio-temporal scales unavailable some years ago. Exploiting the possibilities given by instrumentation, software and combining data of various kinds leads to improved resolution, to opportunity of studying very fast time-dependent phenomena and to studying of fine details of crystal structure.

Zusammenfassung: The dynamic of biological systems is a general and important topic to understand structure and function of life processes. The workshop addresses recent aspects of biomolecular dynamics in the context of neutron scattering experiments. This includes the controversial discussion concerning the mechanism of the dynamical transition, the role of hydration water, proteins in extreme environments, collective motions, biological function and simulation of neutron scattering spectra.

The workshop provides a forum, where all groups working in the field, can present their point of view.

Zusammenfassung: The main purpose of the National School on Neutron and X-ray Scattering is to educate graduate students on the utilization of major neutron and x-ray facilities. Lectures, presented by researchers from academia, industry, and national laboratories, will include basic tutorials on the principles of scattering theory and the characteristics of the sources, as well as seminars on the application of scattering methods to a variety of scientific subjects. Students will conduct four short experiments at Argonne's Advanced Photon Source and Oak Ridge's Spallation Neutron Source and High Flux Isotope Reactor facilities to provide hands-on experience for using neutron and synchrotron sources.

Zusammenfassung: The aim of the Fedorov Session-2008 is to discuss recent progress and future trends in crystallography, mineralogy and petrography within the frame of directions established in the works of Prof. Evgraf Fedorov (1853-1919).

Zusammenfassung: Archaeology and Archaeometry are two emergent fields in materials science with an increasing demand of access to SR-based techniques such as X-ray imaging, X-ray Diffraction, X-ray fluorescence and IR spectroscopy. Synchrotron radiation techniques provide powerful new ways to interrogate the records of our physical and cultural past. The purpose of the workshop is to discuss and explore the current and potential applications of synchrotron science to problems in Archaeology and Art conservation. Bringing together key members of the synchrotron community and experts in the disciplines of Archaeology, Archaeological Science, Art Conservation and Materials Science, the interdisciplinary workshop will report their latest research accomplishments, highlight ongoing projects, and catalyse new interactions between these fields.

With this workshop we hope to stimulate the dialog between scientists from apparently distance areas of research, who are commonly interested in the development of applications of synchrotron radiation in the field of art and archaeology.

Zusammenfassung: In view of the success of previous neutron and x-ray scattering conference in this region (ICNX 2007, Bandung, Indonesia), it has been decided to reconvene the International Conference on Neutron and X-Ray Scattering, in 2009. The conference will take place from June 22 to 24, 2009 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Scattering technique using neutron and x-ray is a powerful method to probe and study the structure and dynamics of materials ranging from the mechanics of proteins folding and its effect in physiology to the ordering of atomic magnets of solid material of industrial interest. Both neutron and x-ray can be exploited using a variety of measurement techniques to provide information not otherwise available.
