Zusammenfassung: A workshop on the science and practical issues of small animal imaging will be held at Stanford on November 5-8, 2008. Zusammenfassung: Over the last few years a new paradigm has been emerging concerning the nature of Eukaryotic regulatory proteins - contrasting with the nice neat globular protein view expounded by biochemical and cell biological textbooks. Instead, many proteins have a remarkable number of architecture modules - including long natively disordered segments and short linear motifs that are awkward to investigate computationally and experimentally.

The course will set the scene by introducing the biological concepts behind these architecture modules and provide extensive hands-on application of the relevant bioinformatics tools with appropriate example proteins.

The power - but also the limitations, which remain substantial - of the currently available software will be examined.

Zusammenfassung: Quantum mechanical interactions at the atomic scale often dictate biological processes those are extremely complex in nature. This is particularly important for applied biosciences (bionanotechnology, pharmacology) where theoretical methods based on quantum mechanics are being used with increasing success.

The integration of different electronic-structure methods with various levels of approximations allows us to analyze experimental results and also to predict properties with reasonable accuracies. This workshop will bring in experts in the field of applied biological sciences to interact, exchange and compare the various methodologies and show the potentialities and the limitation of state-of-the art quantum-mechanics-based computational techniques.

Emphasis will be given on topics and approaches for which direct contact with experiments can be made. Also, this workshop will serve as an excellent platform for the training of Ph.D. students, postdocs and early stage young researchers.

Zusammenfassung: The biannual AIMECS09 conference will be hosted by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute Division of Biomolecular Chemistry and the Asian Federation for Medicinal Chemistry in the beautiful tropical city of Cairns. The venue is on the doorstep of two world heritage listed areas - the Great Barrier Reef, and the Daintree Rainforest.
