2.Gordon Research Conference — Amygdala in Health and Disease 2015
 Termin 02. Aug 2015 → 07. Aug 2015
[ID=648333] Zum Seitenanfang gehen
 OrtEaston, Vereinigte Staaten
 Zusammenfassung The amygdala, a temporal lobe structure that forms part of the limbic system, plays a key role in emotional processing. Its relevance to fear and anxiety in animals has been well known since the classic experiments of Kluver and Bucy, who made mid-temporal lesions in monkeys and found profound effects on the emotional and social behaviour of these animals. Focus on studies of the amygdala expanded greatly when its role in fear conditioning was established. Fear conditioning is a simple Pavlovian conditioning task in which a neutral stimulus is contingently paired with an aversive stimulus. The simple nature of this learning task, and the readily measured physiological changes that accompany it, have made the study of fear conditioning a very attractive target for the study of learning and memory consolidation. As the neural circuitry that underlies fear conditioning is simple and appears to be preserved between species, it presents an accessible model for the study of learning and memory formation in the mammalian nervous system. Because of the physiological similarities between animal and human fear, fear conditioning is seen as relevant to the genesis of anxiety disorders in humans. Moreover, recent research indicates that changes in amygdala function may contribute more generally to pathological forms of emotional learning such as drug addiction. Functional magnetic resonance imaging in humans has clearly established the role of the amygdala in emotional processing. Interest in amygdala function has therefore attracted growing interest in both animal and human experiments using both simple behavioural tests and functional imaging. This Conference focuses on research investigating the role of the amygdala in the formation of emotional memories, both normal and pathological.

 Termin 06. Aug 2015 → 08. Aug 2015
[ID=716759] Zum Seitenanfang gehen
 OrtAlbuquerque, NM, Vereinigte Staaten
 Zusammenfassung The course is designed for fMRI researchers who range from beginning to intermediate skill levels. It will provide those who are just getting started with fMRI a comprehensive set of tools and software to get started with your own studies, and those who are more advanced with a custom code and supplements to standard analyses developed by the instructors. We cover Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM8), independent component analyses (ICA) of fMRI data, mediation analysis of fMRI, and statistical nonparametric mapping (SnPM). We also provide comprehensive coverage of all aspects of experimental design, image acquisition, image preprocessing, and analysis using the general linear model and ICA.The course is unique in that it pairs interactive lectures with hands-on demonstrations and work-through sessions. Each student works on their own laptop. Software will be installed on each student's laptop during the beginning of the course, including Matlab (a trial version), SPM8, the Group ICA of fMRI Toolbox (GIFT), and related SPM toolboxes, including statistical nonparametric mapping (SnPM) and the multi-level mediation fMRI toolbox (M3). In addition, alongside the lectures, participants will be trained to analyze example fMRI data on their laptops using these tools. The course will be small and interactive, with many opportunities to work closely with the faculty. Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis; we apologize in advance if we cannot accommodate all who wish to attend, but we will admit as many people as possible given the interactive nature of the course.

21.7th Annual Practical Management of Acute Stroke: A Global Perspective
 Beginn11. Sep 2015
[ID=719027] Zum Seitenanfang gehen
 OrtIndependene, Ohio, Vereinigte Staaten
 Zusammenfassung More than 795,000 strokes occur each year in the US, either new or recurrent, and cause significant morbidity and mortality. Improvements in acute stroke management, especially early recognition, assessment, and treatment, along with updated evidence-based guidelines to help direct decision making, have led to significant improvements in outcomes during the past decade. Actual outcomes, however, have not reached those achievable, owing to a variety to factors that include gaps in knowledge, competence, and practice among health care providers. Given the significant morbidity and mortality associated with strokes, education aimed at improving the knowledge and competence of practitioners to prevent and treat this disorder has the potential to substantially improve outcomes in this large patient population.

 Zusammenfassung This conference takes a practical case study based approach to delivering parity of esteem through learning from organisations that have succeeded in addressing the challenge of improving the physical health of people with mental health conditions. “There is compelling evidence that people with a mental illness or a learning disability die earlier than the general population. This says something, of course, not only about the services available to support these problems, but also how we, as a society, treat people with a mental illness or a learning disability. This must change. This is an issue that goes to the heart of parity – the Government’s drive to ensure equal priority for mental and physical health in services, testing our ambition to reduce premature avoidable mortality for all people in society.”  Norman Lamb MP, Minister of State for Care and Support, Recognising the importance of physical health in mental health and intellectual disability BMA May 2014 A 20% discount is available by quoting ref: hcuk20ge when booking

49.3rd International on Treatment of Dystonia
 Termin 04. Mai 2016 → 07. Mai 2016
[ID=728185] Zum Seitenanfang gehen
 OrtHannover, Deutschland
 Zusammenfassung Dear Colleagues, Dystonias are amongst the most common movement disorders. Botulinum toxin and deep brain stimulation have revolutionized their therapy. However, there are still considerable unmet therapeutic needs. This was the reason to organise the First and the Second International Congress on Treatment of Dystonia in the years 2010 and 2013. The response was overwhelming: More than 500 participants from over 45 countries came to Hannover for intense 3 day programs, respectively. With this continued support from the international dystonia experts our audience we are now calling for the third congress of this series. As before, we decided to continue with our 3 year rhythm: Shorter intervals would bear the risk of repetition thus spoiling scientific credibility and longer intervals might sever predictability.

 Termin 12. Mai 2016 → 14. Mai 2016
[ID=725301] Zum Seitenanfang gehen

 Zusammenfassung Oscillations are at the heart of living systems. It is our common interest to investigate the origin and functions of neuronal oscillations during sleep. We prepared our International Scientific Conference on Sleep Spindling and Related Phenomena due to recent advances in this specific field of study as well as the key importance of this neural oscillatory pattern in neurobehavioral functioning. Since sleep spindle oscillations are at the crossroad between slow and fast oscillations during sleep, the conference is open to scientific results about a very broad range of neural and behavioural phenomena. We highly appreciate contributions from prospective keynote speakers, speakers or other participants alike.
 Themen The generation and basic mechanisms of sleep spindle oscillations, the thalamocortical system in sleep: experimental insights and modelling, sleep spindles and sleep regulation, individual profiles in sleep spindling, sleep spindle alterations in sleep disorders, sleep spindles and psychopathology, sleep spindling and epilepsy, sleep spindles-memory-neural plasticity, sleep spindles and neurobehavioral functioning, pharmacological agents affecting sleep spindle oscillations, networks involved in sleep spindling, fMRI BOLD correlates of sleep spindle oscillations, the relationship between sleep spindling and other neural oscillatory phenomena
