Zusammenfassung: This course will help those in the mining industry understand the ever-changing minerals-industry reporting environment and framework in a connected manner with practised examples. Presented by technical and economic adviser Venmyn, in association with industry partners, the five-day course is aimed at those in the minerals industry who are responsible for preparing reports in compliance with local and international reporting rules.

CORE’s target audience is analysts, commercial managers, mine managers, engineers, geologists, surveyors, legal practitioners and all members of the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, Geological Society of South Africa, Engineering Council of South Africa, and the South African Council for Professional and Technical Surveyors.

Zusammenfassung: This, the 2nd International Symposium on the Processing of Zinc Ores and Concentrates (Zinc Processing '10), is organised by Minerals Engineering International.

Primary zinc production is complicated by the fact that sphalerite is usually associated with economic amounts of lead and copper minerals, and is often contained in a gangue high in pyrite. The complex intergrowths often mean that very fine grinding is required, followed by selective flotation.

Some of the most important developments which have taken place in minerals engineering in recent years have involved the treatment of these ores and in the subsequent extraction of zinc from concentrates.

Papers are invited on all aspects of the processing of zinc ores and concentrates, including:

- Production of zinc concentrates and the associated problems encountered in comminution and flotation due to the complex mineralogy of Pb-Zn, Cu-Zn and Cu-Pb-Zn deposits.
- Treatment of zinc concentrates by hydrometallurgical, biohydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical routes.
- Environmental issues associated with the treatment of the ores and concentrates.

Zusammenfassung: This, the 1st International Symposium on Process Mineralogy (Process Mineralogy '10), is organised by Minerals Engineering International in consultation with Megan Becker.

Developing from MEI’s previous conferences on Applied Mineralogy and Automated Mineralogy, Process Mineralogy ’10 will deal with the following topics:

- Quantitative mineralogy, including both X-ray and Electron Beam Techniques
- Geometallurgy
- Ore characterisation
- Mineral Liberation and Textural Analysis
- Application of process mineralogy on site
- Sampling and Statistics
- Advanced Process Control

Papers will be published as an unrefereed Proceedings on CD-ROM, and selected papers will be published, after peer-review, in a special Process Mineralogy issue of Minerals Engineering journal.

Zusammenfassung: This, the 5th International Symposium on Bio- & Hydrometallurgy (BioHydromet '10), is organised by Minerals Engineering International.

BioHydromet '10 will focus on the latest developments in:

- Hydrometallurgy: leaching, solvent extraction and ion-exchange;
- Biotechnology: Development and uses of bacteria and other biological agents in hydrometallurgy, flotation, solid-liquid separation, remediation etc.

November 14-15: Flotation Fundamentals: Physics and Chemistry

Although now over a hundred years old, the fundamental aspects of flotation are still being intensively researched, and new machines developed. This two day symposium will focus on:
- Fundamental reagent and flotation chemistry
- Bubbles, froths, bubble-particle interactions
- Flotation cell hydrodynamics, kinetics and scale-up

November 16-17: Flotation Applications and Plant Practice

This two day symposium focuses on the application of flotation, and will include sessions on:

- Plant Operations, particularly related to new technology, and process mineralogy problems
- Flotation Circuits, and their modelling, simulation, control and optimisation
- Flotation machine developments
- Metallic, non-metallic and coal flotation
- Environmental considerations
