Zusammenfassung: Following the success of the 1st international congress on nanoscience and nonotechnology in 2006, University of Tabriz and Iranian Association of Nanotechnology are joining forces to arrange second congress in 2008. The aim of the 2nd International Congress on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2008 (ICNN2008) is to provide an open forum for the presentation and discussion of recent research and development results to prepare the path for future industrial applications.

The ICNN2008 represents also an occasion for international scientists to meet and discuss the advances in the nanotechnology field. The congress covers the whole spectrum of topics from the frontiers of nanoscale science and technology.

Zusammenfassung: The 41st International Symposium on Microelectronics will be held at the Rhode Island Convention Center, Providence, Rhode Island – USA and is being sponsored by the International Microelectronics And Packaging Society (IMAPS). The IMAPS Technical Committee seeks original papers that demonstrate how new technologies and applications are expanding and redefining microelectronics “between the chip and the system.” The 41st Symposium on Microelectronics will focus in the areas of Industry, Systems & Applications, Design and Materials & Process. Abstracts should highlight the major contributions of the work in each these four areas of concentration. All abstracts submitted must represent original, previously unpublished work.

Zusammenfassung: This workshop will provide a place to exchange recent developments and progresses on nanoscience and nanotechnology, nonlinear science and complexity in mathematics, physics and engineering as well as on symmetries, supersymmetries and integrable systems. The applications of the nanotechnology in the renewable energy production and storage as well as the nanostructured materials for nanoelectronics, energy and sensing will be discussed.The experimental details of detection of cancer cell, the development of censors and the multi purpose thin films are going to be presented in the perspectives of the nanoscience point of view.

Zusammenfassung: The rapidly developing field of nanotechnologies presents many opportunities and benefits for new materials with significantly improved properties as well as revolutionary applications in the fields of energy, environment, medicine, etc. The industrial production and use of nanoparticles will be the driving force for the emerging new materials industry of the 21st century. However, the potential impact of these new materials on human health and the environment is viewed with apprehension. This is the purpose of NANOSAFE2 which is an EU funded Integrated Project divided into four subprojects, where different groups work on selected subjects.

Zusammenfassung: This two-day meeting will focus upon advances in the analysis of biological materials under ambient conditions, through such methods as scanning probe microscopy and emerging mass spectrometry, and the interaction of biological systems with surfaces and nanoparticles. The highly successful NMAET series concentrates on in-depth, frontier issues in surface and nano-analysis and this year's meeting will be held in conjunction with the 10th SSBII meeting. Both NMAET and SSBII attract world-leading scientists from industry and academia, and this meeting will enable a lively and engaging discussion on the frontier issues in biomolecular surface analysis.

Zusammenfassung: Nanotechnology is beginning to revolutionise almost every area of medicine. Research at the nanoscale provides us with an ever greater understanding of how the human body works and how diseases develop.

Implementation of this knowledge in terms of new medical products and treatments, however, also requires the development of new generations of medical nanomaterials (a material with one or more external dimensions, or an internal structure, on the nanoscale) or adding novel properties to existing materials whether in the fields of diagnosis, imaging, drug delivery or surgery.

This workshop will bring together leading clinicians and medical scientists, developers of new “smart” or functionalized nanomaterials, industry experts and business specialists in a multidisciplinary and interactive forum to collectively examine and propose ways of bringing new medical nanomaterials effectively to the clinic.

Zusammenfassung: The interdisciplinary workshop provides the possibility for presenting and exchanging progress in the description of nonequilibrium phenomena in finite systems. Experiments on very short time scales are characterized by transient phenomena like the formation of correlations and quasiparticle excitations far from equilibrium. Conventionally applied theoretical techniques have to be critically reviewed, and new theoretical concepts have to be discussed. The development of reliable methods is of great importance for designing and fabricating today’s nanostructures. The workshop wants to contribute to the understanding of correlations in optical and transport phenomena in small systems by bringing together theorists and experimentalists from different areas. The workshop is supported by DFG, SMWK, ICCMP and FZD.

Zusammenfassung: The Second International Conference on Frontiers in Nanoscience and Technology (Cochin Nano - 2009) being organized by the Department of Physics, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Cochin, India, is aimed at bringing eminent researchers from both academia and industry under one roof to discuss and to deliberate on the latest developments in nanoscience and nanotechnology. Zusammenfassung: The Institute of Nanotechnology has previously organised three international conferences on textiles, providing an international platform where a diverse community of professionals from industry, academia and fashion can come together to share information, research findings and practical experiences – ranging from nano to smart textiles.

Building on the success and popularity of previous textile conferences the IoN is organising a further conference at The Royal Society in London on March 18th – 19th 2009 on this subject, bringing together multiple disciplines and various technologies and developments in the textiles arena. The conference will have an application side, as to where textile developments can be used by various industries, as well as keeping the audience up to date on the latest technologies and ideas being developed.

Zusammenfassung: Mechanical aspects of nano technology stretch from increased strength of construction materials over the controlled reduction of the shear resistance of tribological applications to the conditioning of surfaces in either adhesive or anti-adhesive way. Nano-effects can be induced by the introduction of nanoparticles into conventional materials such as metals or polymers. Here technological questions like particle dispersion or aggregation have to be answered. Additionally nano-effects are achievable by material conversion due to high stresses or thermal treatment.

The conference targets fundamental as well as technological issues of nano-effects with emphasis on mechanical properties.

Research and discovery in nanoscience are exploding and numerous key enabling technologies will soon lead to far-reaching changes in our lives. In fact, nanotech is already weaving yesterday's dreams into today’s reality with great advances in fields as diverse as telecommunications, computing, medicine, energy, and textiles. We need to understand the transformations that nanotech will bring about, the science behind it, and how we can seize its benefits and limit its risks. Zusammenfassung: Smart materials can be defined as materials that sense and react to environmental conditions or stimuli (e.g. mechanical, chemical, electrical, or magnetic signals). In the last decade, a wide range of novel smart materials have been produced for aerospace, transportation, telecommunications, and domestic applications. Furthermore there is increased activity in integrating smart materials with nanotechnology to develop novel materials for the applications in biomaterials, sensors, actuators, and textiles. Nanotechnology would permit control of matter at the level of atoms and molecules which would form the building blocks of smart materials.Smart materials are thus evolving from traditional fiber reinforced composite through functionally graded materials to the current nanotechnologically grown materials.
