Zusammenfassung: Nanomaterials have attracted considerable attention during the past several years owing to their interesting chemistry, unique properties and potential applications in many fields.

Zusammenfassung: We cordially invite researchers in the fields listed below, and other related areas: An International Conference on Recent Trends in Nanostructured Materials and Their Applications (ICRNM-2008) is being organized by the Department of Physics, Osmania University, India from December 19-20, 2008. The control of matter at nano-scale is the foundation of wide range of modern technologies which underpin many aspects of modern life, therefore the main objective of this conference is to provide a platform for scientists and engineers working in the area of nanomaterials to disseminate their latest research results, allow cross disciplinary exchange of knowledge and show case their latest inventions and innovations. Plenary and invited talks will be delivered by leading researchers in the field, on most recent developments in the areas of synthesis and characterization of nano-structured materials. Electronic, Optical, Magnetic and Thermal properties determined by nano-scale features will be presented by various researchers in the form oral/poster presentations.

Zusammenfassung: The Second International Conference on Frontiers in Nanoscience and Technology (Cochin Nano - 2009) being organized by the Department of Physics, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Cochin, India, is aimed at bringing eminent researchers from both academia and industry under one roof to discuss and to deliberate on the latest developments in nanoscience and nanotechnology. A pre-conference workshop for the benefit of research scholars and young scientists will be held on the 3rd of January 2009. Zusammenfassung: Colloidal suspensions undergo Brownian diffusion that arrests at high density, remobilizing under flow. Slowly sheared non-Brownian particles (dry or in suspension) likewise show chaotic trajectories, but of quite different origin. Both systems can jam spontaneously when too large a stress is applied.

This meeting will compare and contrast the flow, jamming and arrest of Brownian and non-Brownian materials.

Zusammenfassung: Die Seminarteilnehmer sollen mit den modernen Grundlagen der Herstellung und Stabilisierung von Emulsionen vertraut werden. Dabei werden thermodynamische und kinetische Aspekte der Stabilisierung behandelt. Die Teilnehmer sollen die generellen Voraussetzungen und Möglichkeiten zur Präparation und Berechnung von Emulsionen sowie den Zusammenhang zwischen der Natur der Emulgatoren mit der Struktur der Emulsion kennen lernen. Weiterhin wird ein Einblick in moderne physikalisch-chemische Charakterisierungsmethoden gegeben.

Zusammenfassung: Smart materials can be defined as materials that sense and react to environmental conditions or stimuli (e.g. mechanical, chemical, electrical, or magnetic signals). In the last decade, a wide range of novel smart materials have been produced for aerospace, transportation, telecommunications, and domestic applications. Furthermore there is increased activity in integrating smart materials with nanotechnology to develop novel materials for the applications in biomaterials, sensors, actuators, and textiles. Nanotechnology would permit control of matter at the level of atoms and molecules which would form the building blocks of smart materials.Smart materials are thus evolving from traditional fiber reinforced composite through functionally graded materials to the current nanotechnologically grown materials.
