Zusammenfassung: Zielsetzung In der organischen Analytik müssen u.a. chormatographische Trennverfahren validiert und akkreditiert werden, die mit verschiedenen Detektionsmethoden kombiniert sind. Die sehr allgemeinen Vorgaben der einschlägigen Akkreditierungsdokumente geben jedoch keine Auskunft darüber, wie man ein praxisnahes Qualitätskontroll ('QC')-System aufbaut und wie man eine optimale Methodenvalidierung durchführt. Eine Entwicklung von QC-Systemen nur an Hand der vorgeschriebenen Formalien und ohne Berücksichtigung des reellen Kontrollbedarfs im Labor, führt zu Routinen, die zwar QC-konform sind, aber oftmals auch schwerfällig und zeitaufwendig. Die vorgeschriebenen Kontrollen liefern zudem häufig nicht die zur Behebung eines Problems notwendige Information. QC-Routinen, die von der eingesetzten Methodik und den daraus entstehenden Anforderungen her entwickelt werden, führen zu einer Erleichterung der täglichen Arbeit durch frühzeitiges Entdecken von Abweichungen und Fehlern. Durch das Kombinieren von Kontrollroutinen mit Arbeitsvorgängen, die sowieso durchgeführt werden müssen, kann zudem Zeit eingespart werden. Mit Hilfe von Beispielen aus der organischen Spurenanalytik, die sich auch in andere Bereiche umsetzen lassen, werden Hilfen und Tips für die praxisnahe Konzipierung von QC-Systemen gegeben, welche während der einzelnen Analysenschritte ohne grossen Zusatzaufwand sowohl die vom Akkreditierungssystem benötigte Kontrollinformation liefern als auch Hinweise auf Fehlerursachen. 25 Jahre Spurenanalytik, die erste Akkreditierung eines Dioxinlabors in Europa sowie die Mitarbeit in Standardisierungsgremien der EU erlauben auf vielfältige Erfahrungen zurückzugreifen.

Zusammenfassung: An exciting and varied program is planned covering all areas of polymer science and engineering, including synthesis, characterisation, processing and modeling. Topics will span biological polymers, through nanomaterials to mechanical prerties and rheology. Presentations and discussion on intellectual properties and commercialisation of plastics is also a feature. Many years of successful APS conferences have shown that this is a great forum for hearing the latest in polymer research from top international and Australian polymer scientists, as well as presenting your work and meeting others and networking in a warm and convivial atmosphere.

The mutual interest in petrochemicals as the basis for current polymer technology makes a strong driving force for collaborative research and development. Zusammenfassung: Dieses Seminar behandelt alle Aspekte des Arbeitens mit intelligenten Detektoren zur Bestimmung von Molmasse, Größe und Struktur von Polymeren und Biopolymeren in Lösung. Er gliedert sich in einen Vorlesungsteil in dem der theoretische Hintergrund von (Mehrwinkel)Lichtstreudetektion und Viskosimetrie behandelt werden und einen praktischen Teil der von der Probenvorbereitung über die Datenaufnahme und Auswertung sowohl batch-Messungen als auch Kopplungen mit GPC/SEC-Anlagen behandelt. Arbeiten in kleinen Arbeitsgruppen, die von einem Tutor betreut werden, sorgt für die notwendige Arbeitsdichte und dafür, dass auch eigene Fragestellungen diskutiert werden können. Ein trouble-shooting Teil rundet die Veranstaltung ab.

Zusammenfassung: Fluor ist ein faszinierendes Element und wird hauptsächlich in den Mineralien Fluorapatit und Fluorit gefunden. Nach seiner Isolierung durch Henri Moissan 1886 (Nobelpreis 1906) wurde es zu einer bedeutsamen Basis für chemische Forschungen, Entdeckungen und Innovationen. Heute beeinflussen fluorierte Stoffe das tägliche Leben von Millionen Menschen in positiver Weise, besonders in „quality-of-life“ Produkten, in „Health Care“ und Pflanzenschutz. Einige bekannte Beispiele sind: Anorganische Fluoride im Trinkwasser und in der Zahnpflege, gasförmige Fluoride als Ätzgase in der Halbleiterherstellung, synthetische Blutersatzstoffe, moderne Anästhetika, Kühlmittel (Klimaanlagen, Kühlschränke), „High Performance“ Kunststoffe im Haushalt, in der Bau- und Automobilindustrie, in der Raumfahrt, fluorierte Wirkstoffe in der Pharmaindustrie (Antibiotika, Antidepressiva) und im Pflanzenschutz. Fluorierte Flüssigkristallmoleküle kommen in den neuesten Displays von Computermonitoren und Mobiltelefonen zum Einsatz. Eine ganz neue Entwicklung hat sich in der Anwendung hochfluorierter organischer Substanzen für die Mikrolithographie ergeben. Ein radioaktives Isotop wird für die PET-Methode in der Medizintechnik zur Untersuchung von Herz und Gehirn verwendet.

Zusammenfassung: Engineering Conferences International, in technical co-sponsorship with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, is sponsoring the seventh conference in the series on 'Polymer Reaction Engineering.' The conference will take place May 3-8, 2009 at the Crowne Plaza/Brock Hotel in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.

This conference provides a forum for presentation of emerging technologies and scientific advancements in the area of polymer reaction engineering. The speakers and attendees come from several sectors of academia and industry or other research organizations. This format has been adopted for the last six PRE conferences and found to be very successful.

The program chair is Professor Alexander Penlidis (University of Waterloo); co-chairs are Dr. John R. Richards (DuPont) and Professor Marc A. Dubé (University of Ottawa). The scientific committee includes Professors Giuseppe Storti (ETH, Switzerland), Donald Sundberg (Univ. of New Hampshire, USA)

Zusammenfassung: Eight previous Florida Conferences held each March for the years 2000 through 2007 inclusive, brought together the academic and industrial communities with an abundance of heterocyclic and synthetic chemistry reflecting the current interest in the subject. The program holds particular interest for the industrial chemical community where pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and colorants usually contain at least one heterocyclic ring.

This, the Ninth Florida Heterocyclic and Synthetic Conference, continues in the tradition of its highly successful predecessors.

Zusammenfassung: This 3-day training course for industrial chemists covers the advanced principles of aromatic heterocyclic chemistry. Concentrating on a wide range of molecules with 1-4 heteroatoms (mainly nitrogen), their importance in industry, synthesis and strategy are discussed, interspersed with tutorials and problem sessions. This course has been designed to follow the basic course.

Viskosimetrie, Lichtstreuung, FTIR). Die Theorie, sowie die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen dieser Methoden werden einführend in Seminarvorträgen behandelt.

In Arbeitsgruppen mit maximal 5 Personen pro GPC-Anlage werden praktische Übungen unter Anleitung von erfahrenen Polymerchemikern durchgeführt. Dabei werden die Gruppen nach organischen und wässrigen Applikationen unterteilt. Auch für die Beantwortung von individuellen Fragestellungen bleibt Zeit.

Der Teilnehmer soll am Ende des Kurses in der Lage sein, Analysendaten in Ergebnisse umzusetzen sowie den Zustand der chromatographischen Anlage und die Qualität der Ergebnisse zu beurteilen.

Zusammenfassung: This training course covers all aspects for working with advanced detection methods and instruments for the determination of molar masses, sizes, and structures of macromolecules and biopolymers in solution.

Lectures providing the theoretical background of (multi angle) light scattering and viscometry will be followed by hands-on training sessions on practical aspects and data processing.

Tutored discussions in small workgroups and a trouble shooting session ensure that all aspects of molar mass sensitive detection are trained efficiently. Each group has its own tutor, an experienced polymer chemist, to discuss also special applications and questions.

Zusammenfassung: Conferences on Isoprenoids have been organized since the mid 1960’s as biannual events, alternating between Poland and the Czech Republic. The Conferences over many years became very popular and well-attended. With great pleasure we officially announce the broadening of our scientific program to include, in addition to advances in chemistry of isoprenoids, also advances in chemistry of other bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, amino acids, low molecular weight carbohydrates, antibiotics etc. The present format of the Conference is oriented toward stereoselective synthesis of bioactive compounds and the program includes both plenary and invited lectures, oral communications as well as a poster session.

Zusammenfassung: The European Polymer Congress 2009 (EPF 09) is a great, biannual event coving all aspects of polymer science which has already attracted more than 800 participants. The congress, organized by European Polymer Federation and the Institute for Chemistry and Technology of Materials of Graz University of Technology, will take place in Graz, Austria from the 12. until the 17. of July 2009.

Zusammenfassung: The 43rd IUPAC World Polymer Congress, 'Macro2010', is the latest in the series of the biennial meetings of the IUPAC Polymer Division. The series has been running for several decades and is the largest international multi-symposium conference dedicated to all aspects of polymer science and engineering.

Macro2010 is organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and hosted by the Pure and Applied Macromolecular Chemistry Group (Macro Group UK), a joint interest group of the RSC and the Society of Chemical Industry (SCI).
