Keystone Symposia: Unraveling the Secrets of Kidney Disease
03 Mar 2019 - 07 Mar 2019 • Whistler, British Columbia, Canada
Abstract:
Scholarship and Discounted Abstract Deadline: November 19, 2018

Close to 1 in 11 people in the world suffers from kidney disease, and the incidence is increasing, especially in the developing world. This issue was recently reviewed and emphasized in a Lancet article (Global Health Atlas). Acute and chronic kidney disease is associated with a highly significant increase in cardiovascular death, and chronic kidney disease (CKD) represents a leading cause of death in the United States. There is no cure for this disease, with current treatment strategies relying on blood pressure control through blockade of the renin-angiotensin system. Such approaches only delay the development of end-stage kidney disease and can be associated with serious side effects. Recent identification of several novel mechanisms contributing to CKD development - including vascular changes, loss of podocytes and renal epithelial cells, matrix deposition, inflammation and metabolic dysregulation - has revealed new potential therapeutic approaches for CKD. This conference will review clinical and observational studies in the kidney disease area, highlight recent advances in basic biology of kidney and kidney disease, assesses emerging strategies and agents for CKD treatment, and discuss major obstacles in drug development. The conference will also encourage collaborations among clinicians and researchers from academia and pharma= and accelerate innovation in this field. Furthermore, since more than half of kidney disease is caused by diabetes, the symposium will greatly benefit from the joint pairing with the conference on “Diabetes: Innovations, Outcomes and Personalized Therapies.”

The 19th International Vasculitis and ANCA Workshop 2019
07 Apr 2019 - 10 Apr 2019 • Philadelphia, United States
Abstract:
The overall objective of the 19th International Vasculitis & ANCA Workshop is to bring together biomedical scientists and clinicians, including new investigators, junior faculty, and trainees, who are interested in basic and translational science discoveries, data from clinical trials, and advances in clinical assessment, to discuss pathophysiology, genetics/genomics, biomarkers, and standard of care and novel therapies for vasculitis, for the purpose of advancing knowledge in understanding the underlying mechanisms and management of this complex and fascinating group of rare diseases. The Workshop will be multi-disciplinary and multi-professional. The Workshop is a unique venue for addressing the clinical and scientific complexities and broad scope of organ involvement that are the hallmarks of the vasculitides, ranging from small to large vessel diseases. Researchers who may otherwise have little opportunity to cross paths, given their varied specialties and geographic locations, are provided with an environment to interact and share ideas.

Revise Nephrology
28 Sep 2019 - 29 Sep 2019 • SYDNEY, Australia
Abstract:
The Revise Nephrology course is aimed at providing a comprehensive understanding of renal medicine including dialysis and transplantation. While common conditions in various medical sub-specialties are relatively well understood for e.g. CCF and ACS in Cardiology, COPD and respiratory failure in Respiratory Medicine or cirrhosis in Gastroenterology etc., many of the common cases one comes across in Nephrology e.g. workup of acute kidney injury, differential diagnosis of glomerulonephritis, nephrotic syndrome and the various renal tubular acidosis are not well understood. The aim of this course is to create a platform on which renal topics which are of interest from a professional and examination point of view will be discussed in a comprehensive and easy language. Lectures will be backed by topic-wise multiple choice questions with discussions around them. It is hoped that the course will help in preparation for fellowship exams but also, more importantly, help equip trainees, including interns and residents who intend to enter Basic Physician Training with improved knowledge and a practical approach to renal management.
