Symposium on Complexity in Health & Wellness Behavior
05 Sep 2018 - 07 Sep 2018 • Burlington, United States
Abstract:
During this intensive three-day professional education short course, we will explore boundary-breaking science that is being used to tackle issues related to human behavioral wellness. We will be looking at behavior in health systems, the current methods and tools being used in health analytics and data collection, methods used in behavioral health prediction and intervention, we will also address some of the shortfalls we face when behavior is ignored in health models and interventions.

The Vermont Complex Systems Center is a highly collaborative, open, and playful space that embraces intellectual curiosity, kindness, and rigor. We are a post-disciplinary team of researchers working at the University of Vermont on real-world, data-rich, and meaningful complex systems problems of all kinds. Our educational programs are meant to be an idea collider. They bring together faculty and participants from many fields and spark new collaboration. They facilitate creativity. Our aim is not just to transfer complexity tools but to provide a life experience for our students and create a community of complexity researchers and practitioners who are open, collaborative, and hungry for rigorous solutions to complex problems.

ThUNDDAR+IGT Networks Speed Dating Event
02 Oct 2018 • London, United Kingdom
Abstract:
The half-day event will focus on how engineering and physical sciences (EPS) innovation can help improve patient care and will begin with presentations by clinicians. Each clinician will describe one critical clinical challenge they are facing within their field. Each presentation will give an overview of current treatments and the limitations in current state-of-the-art technology which, if improved, could lead to better patient care. The format of the event will be a cross between a sandpit/speed-dating session. We will bring together people to inspire creative thinking to solve existing problems. Participants will not need prior knowledge of the problem area to participate, but must demonstrate an enthusiasm for working at the interface between disciplines. It will be an excellent opportunity to identify unique collaborative projects in multidisciplinary groups formed of clinicians, engineers and basic scientists.
