28 Sep 2008; Toulouse, France

abstract: This workshop aims to look specifically at how to develop, apply, evaluate and compare all kinds of OCL-related tools. The workshop will bring together OCL practitioners and OCL tool builders (from both academy and industry) in order to evaluate today’s state-of-the-practice.In particular, the workshop will focus the discussion on how to evaluate, compare and select the right OCL tools for a given purpose, how to deal with the expressiveness and complexity of the language and how to tackle its ambiguous or underdefined issues from a practical point of view. The workshop is also interested in disputing about new OCL tools and about patterns, libraries, or algorithms that may facilitate its development and reuse. In addition, all other aspects that may facilitate a wider adoption and support of OCL or its usability are also welcome. As a result of the workshop, we expect to consolidate and expand the role of OCL among the modeling community by creating a road map for research and development that could potentially drive the building of a new generation of OCL tools.

47.go to top of page[ID=182989]NCPC-2008
20 Oct 2008 → 22 Oct 2008; Bangalore, India
organizer: PES Institute of Technology

abstract: Parallel Computing (PC) is a subject discussed in the context of high performance computing (HPC). The goal of HPC is to find faster solutions to larger and more complex problems. This area is a highly interdisciplinary area ranging from numerical analysis and algorithm design to programming languages, computer architectures, software and real applications. The participants include engineers, computer scientists, applied mathematicians, physicists, and many others. This concentrates on well developed and more research oriented parallel algorithms in science and engineering that have traditionally relied on high performance computing.

PC operates on the principle that large problems can often be divided into smaller ones, which are then solved concurrently.

There are several different forms of parallel computing:

  1. Bit-level parallelism
  2. Instruction-level parallelism
  3. Data parallelism
  4. Task parallelism
It has been used for many years, mainly in high-performance computing, but interest in it has grown in recent years due to the physical constraints preventing frequency scaling. Parallel computing has become the dominant paradigm in computer architecture, mainly in the form of multicore processors. However, in recent years, power consumption by parallel computers has become a concern.

49.go to top of page[ID=181282]DSPD — 2nd International Workshop on Domain-Specific Program Development
22 Oct 2008; Nashville, TN, United States

abstract: Domain-specific knowledge is traditionally integrated in the software development process in an ad hoc and partial fashion, without much formal basis or tools. Nevertheless, the concept of domain expertise intervenes at all stages of the continuum of modeling, programming, and compiling. Putting domain expertise at the center of the software development process entails providing abstractions that are well adapted to expressing problems in the domain, providing verifications that capture essential domain properties, and providing implementation strategies that take domain requirements into account.

These issues have been considered in the fields of modeling, programming, and compiling, but in isolation. Indeed, the field of domain-specific modeling has had little influence on the design of domain-specific programming languages, and the design of domain-specific programming languages has been considered independently of implementation techniques. The purpose of this workshop is to bring together researchers in these fields to identify possible points of synergy, common problems and solutions, and visions for the future.

26 Oct 2008 → 31 Oct 2008; Sliema, Malta

abstract: The International Conference on Software Engineering Advances (ICSEA 2008) initiates a series of events covering a broad spectrum of software-related topics. The conference covers fundamentals on designing, implementing, testing, validating and maintaining various kinds of software. Several tracks are proposed to treat the topics from theory to practice, in terms of methodologies, design, implementation, testing, use cases, tools, and lessons learnt. The conference topics cover classical and advanced methodologies, open source, agile software, as well as software deployment and software economics and education.

Whatever ones specific discipline, all researchers in Computer Science and related disciplines are additionally experts in the domain of research itself. The nature of research varies slightly with the specific discipline researchers work in, yet there is much common ground and room for a sharing of best practice, frameworks, tools, languages and methodologies.

02 Dec 2008; Beijing, China

abstract: Software project managers require reliable methods for estimating software project costs, and assessing software development productivity. For over 25 years, there has been considerable research effort directed towards software cost estimation and software productivity analysis, various algorithmic approaches developed and their performance reported in the research literature. But nevertheless, cost estimation and productivity analysis remains a complex problem in the software industry.

The goal of the workshop on software productivity analysis and cost estimation, SPACE 2008, is to bring together practitioners and researchers for discussion and presentation on the emerging aspects pertaining to software cost estimation, productivity analysis, prediction models and techniques, and lessons learned. The workshop provides a forum to present new ideas and to explore future directions in these areas for software engineering and software project management.

topics: cost estimation, productivity, software engineering, effort estimation, software process improvement, experience management
