Zusammenfassung	This is an exciting time for the emerging field of lipidomics. With the development and evolution of sophisticated mass spectrometers linked to highly efficient liquid chromatography systems, individual molecular species of lipids can now be isolated and identified, allowing us to begin to understand lipid metabolism and the treatment of lipid-based diseases (atherosclerosis and inflammatory disease as well as arthritis, cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer's disease). Recent awareness that each category of lipid consists of thousands if not tens of thousands of individual molecular species requires sophisticated informatics to ensure consistent databasing and annotation of the numerous lipid molecular species and analysis of tremendous quantities of experimental data. The goal of this meeting is to bring together biological and biomedical scientists in a wide range of fields to share new findings and methods in the broader lipidomics field and to explore joint efforts to extend the use of these powerful new methods to new applications. Presentations will provide an excellent introduction for scientists new to these methods, and are sure to be of interest to lipidomics veterans to learn about latest techniques and research results.

Zusammenfassung	In Vivo applications of Magnetic Resonance (MR) continue to grow thanks to technical advancements in several key areas of MR technology, including ultra-high magnetic field instrumentation, gradient and radio-frequency coil design, novel acquisition methods and image processing algorithms. In addition, recent years have resulted in the development of novel contrast agents and significant progress in the theory of MR in biological systems. All these advancements further promote MR as one of the most powerful single imaging modality to study living systems, spanning from anatomy and metabolic functions to detection and characterization of disease processes, and on spatial scales from individual cells to whole organs. The research field of in vivo MR is inherently interdisciplinary, bringing together scientists with backgrounds in physics, chemistry, engineering, biology and medicine. This conference focuses on the latest developments in both MR methodology and applications, providing a unique venue for exchanging ideas and developing collaborations. Young investigators and students are particularly encouraged to apply. Topics to-be-covered include, but are not limited to: novel approaches for creating, detecting, and localizing the MR signal; applications of in vivo spectroscopy in disease and basic studies of metabolism; physical, chemical and biological mechanisms that affect the MR signal in vivo; development of new agents and approaches for manipulating the MR signal and contrast; functional MRI to study activation, blood flow and metabolism; and cellular function, from metabolism to gene expression to migration.
