Paths2020 — Purity, Approximation Theory and Spectra
18 May 2020 - 22 May 2020 • Cetraro, Italy
Abstract:
Purity and approximation theory influence a wide range of areas in mathematics including model theory of modules, silting and tilting theory, cotorsion pairs and abelian model structures and many more. Moreover, related classification problems in abelian and triangulated categories are strongly connected with spaces such as Ziegler spectra and prime spectra. We aim to bring together experts and young researchers with an interest in these topics to share their different viewpoints and approaches. The workshop will include five mini lecture series introducing a range of fundamental topics, and contributed talks.

Sub-Riemannian Geometry and Beyond, III. A gist on Lie groups in Pisa
25 May 2020 - 29 May 2020 • Pisa, Italy
Organizer:
Centro di Ricerca Matematica Ennio De Giorgi
Abstract:
The conference is the third meeting within prof. Le Donne's ERC project GeoMeG (Geometry of Metric Groups). The idea for the 2020 meeting is to focus on the following subjects: 1) large-scale geometry of nilpotent groups (and as the sub-Riemannian geometry appear as asymptotic cone) 2) Heintze groups (= homogeneous negatively curved manifolds) and their boundaries (which are nilpotent groups, possibly equipped with non-smooth distances) 3) geometry of solvable groups or, more generally, the large scale geometry of Lie groups. Tentative list of speakers: Manuel Amann, Marc Burger, Matias Carrasco Piaggio, Yves Cornulier, Moon Duchin, Tullia Dymarz, David Fisher, Misha Gromov, David Kyed, Grigoriy Margulis, Nicolas Monod, Pierre Pansu, Frederic Paulin, Roman Sauer, Yehuda Shalom, Xiangdong Xie, Robert Young.

GABY2020 — Groups and Algebras in Bicocca for Young algebraists 2020
15 Jun 2020 - 19 Jun 2020 • Milan, Italy
Organizer:
University of Milano-Bicocca, Department of Mathematics
Abstract:
The two-year cycle of conferences "GABY - Groups & Algebras in Bicocca for Young algebraists" stems from the will to support young researchers in group theory, algebra and related topics. The convention is committed to provide an introduction to those topics of group theory and algebra that may not be readily available in any institution and that cover some of the most inviting research topics. Each conference in the series consists of three mini-courses complemented by lectures, posters, and discussion sessions. In addition, we give participants the opportunity to present their research and to expand their network of contacts with other researchers in the areas of interest to them.
