30 Aug 2009 → 03 Sep 2009; Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland

abstract: Energy and environment are among the biggest challenges humanity faces this century. Research in chemistry and catalysis can contribute greatly to the sustainable development of our society by improving known and inventing new technologies for energy storage and conversion, and by developing environmentally-friendly and atom-economic chemical processes. Over the last years, exciting new results and concepts have emerged. The speakers will present tutorial overviews of the latest developments in research areas including solar- and bio-fuel production, alkane functionalization, and green chemistry.

Speakers include: Fraser Armstrong (Oxoford), John Bercaw (Caltech), Philip Jessop (Queen's Univ.), Dan Nocera (MIT), Paul Dyson (EPFL), Xile Hu (EPFL).

In order to stimulate discussions, poster sessions will be organized.

topics: Chemical energy conversion, C-H activation, green chemistry, electrocatalysis by enzymes, biphasic catalysis
