	abstract: Ionic media have made great scientific progress in the last years. Both fields, molten salts and ionic liquids, have contributed to new fundamental insight and advanced which have allowed to explore new research areas and to realize new technical applications. The EUCHEM 2008 Conference on Molten Salts and Ionic Liquids aims to provide a forum to discuss the state-of-the-art in molten salt and ionic liquid research and to develop future perspectives of ionic media used for academic and industrial purposes.
