ThUNDDAR+IGT Networks Speed Dating Event
02 Oct 2018 • London, United Kingdom
Abstract:
The half-day event will focus on how engineering and physical sciences (EPS) innovation can help improve patient care and will begin with presentations by clinicians. Each clinician will describe one critical clinical challenge they are facing within their field. Each presentation will give an overview of current treatments and the limitations in current state-of-the-art technology which, if improved, could lead to better patient care. The format of the event will be a cross between a sandpit/speed-dating session. We will bring together people to inspire creative thinking to solve existing problems. Participants will not need prior knowledge of the problem area to participate, but must demonstrate an enthusiasm for working at the interface between disciplines. It will be an excellent opportunity to identify unique collaborative projects in multidisciplinary groups formed of clinicians, engineers and basic scientists.

ICAMDATA — International Conference on Atomic and Molecular Data
11 Nov 2018 - 15 Nov 2018 • Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States
Abstract:
The International Conference on Atomic and Molecular Data and Their Applications (ICAMDATA) is a continuing series of international conferences that promotes the use of atomic and molecular (AM) data in various fields of science and technology, provides a forum for interaction of AM data producers and users and for information exchange on AM data needs and availability, and fosters cross-disciplinary cooperation between the AM data producers and users and the coordination of AM data activities and databases worldwide. ICAMDATA covers topics on AM data needs in various scientific and technological areas (such as aeronomy, astrophysics, biomedicine, gaseous electronics, surface physics, industrial plasmas, and environmental, fusion, semiconductor and other technologies), and the development of experimental and theoretical methods for AM data generation, AM data collection, assessment, exchange and dissemination activities, establishment of national and international general and purpose-oriented AM databases, standardization of data formats and assessment criteria and efficient utilization of modern data access and transmission tools.

ICHED — International Conference on High Energy Density Science
31 Mar 2019 - 05 Apr 2019 • Oxford, United Kingdom
Abstract:
High-energy-density (HED) physics concerns the behaviour of systems roughly characterized as having a pressure above one million atmospheres (equal to 0.1 TPa). More precisely, one might say that it is the laboratory study of matter having a pressure above 0.1 Mbar (10 GPa) and containing free electrons not present in the solid state, and the use of experimental systems that produce such conditions. This encompasses a wide range of conditions. Already the realm accessed by current and near-term experiments is vast, including temperatures from zero (at high enough density) to perhaps 1012K, and densities from less than 10-5 (at high temperature) to 104 times the density of water. In the natural universe, one finds HED conditions in the big bang, in stars, in planets, and in dynamical systems such as supernovae and gamma-ray bursts. Beyond that, HED systems are the only laboratory environments that access high-Mach-number shock waves in strongly ionized matter, conditions also common to many observed astrophysical phenomena. The anticipated technical applications are also diverse, ranging from inertial confinement fusion to particle acceleration for science or medicine, to sources of light or neutrons for industrial purposes.

FQMT19 — Frontiers of Quantum and Mesoscopic Thermodynamics 2019
14 Jul 2019 - 20 Jul 2019 • Prague, Czech Republic
Abstract:
The main goal of the conference is to contribute to a better understanding of the behavior of quantum systems out of equilibrium. To reach this aim we also need to improve our knowledge of systems in equilibrium and steady state situations. The conference will thus address foundations of quantum physics, quantum many body physics, statistical physics, and thermodynamics relying on the theoretical and experimental methods of condensed matter physics and quantum optics. The systems considered will be mainly on the order of mesoscopic (nanoscale) size, and include those of both natural and artificial origin. Special attention will be given to non-equilibrium quantum systems, physics of quantum information and manifestation of quantum effects in biological systems. Subjects from astrophysics, gravitation or cosmology related to the above scope will also be included.
