SpicyFL 2020 — NeurIPS-20 Workshop on Scalability, Privacy, and Security in Federated Learning
05 dec 2020 - 12 dec 2020 • Virtual, Canada
Résumé:
In the recent decade, we have witnessed rapid progress in machine learning in general and deep learning in particular, mostly driven by tremendous data. As these intelligent algorithms, systems, and applications are deployed in real-world scenarios, we are now facing new challenges, such as scalability, security, privacy, trust, cost, regulation, and environmental and societal impacts. In the meantime, data privacy and ownership has become more and more critical in many domains, such as finance, health, government, and social networks. Federated learning (FL) has emerged to address data privacy issues. To make FL practically scalable, useful, efficient, and effective on security and privacy mechanisms and policies, it calls for joint efforts from the community, academia, and industry. More challenges, interplays, and tradeoffs in scalability, privacy, and security need to be investigated in a more holistic and comprehensive manner by the community. We are expecting broader, deeper, and greater evolution of these concepts and technologies, and confluence towards holistic trustworthy AI ecosystems. This workshop provides an open forum for researchers, practitioners, and system builders to exchange ideas, discuss, and shape roadmaps towards scalable and privacy-preserving federated learning in particular, and scalable and trustworthy AI ecosystems in general.

Integration of Model- and Data-Driven Methods for Medical Imaging
12 sep 2021 - 17 sep 2021 • Oaxaca, Mexique
Organisateur:
Casa Matemática Oaxaca (CMO) in Mexico, and the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) in Banff, Canada
Résumé:
Recent remarkable advances in learning-based methods are revolutionizing the field of image analysis resulting in a paradigm shift towards data-driven approaches. These methods have already shown tremendous success in a wide range of applications from computer vision such as object detection and object category classifications. To perform efficiently though, such methods typically require a large number of training sample and this requirement is highly impractical or impossible in applications from medical imaging where it is very laborious and expensive to generate labeled data. Another drawback of learning-based method is that they do not come with provable performance guarantees. One remedy to such limitations is to combine data-driven methods with prior knowledge through mathematical and/or physical models in such a way to optimize processing, reconstruction and analysis of medical imaging data without the need of extensive training. This workshop will bring together researchers with a different background ranging from optimization, inverse problem, numerical and harmonic analysis and machine learning to advance state-of-the-art methods combining data- and model-driven approaches for medical imaging.

Organisateur:
The Optical Society (OSA)
Résumé:
The Optical Tomography and Spectroscopy (OTS) Topical Meeting builds on the strong foundations of the OSA Biomedical Optics Topical meeting where groundbreaking research on optical tomography and spectroscopy was historically discussed since mid-1990’s. Example topics central to this meeting are novel instrumentation, data analysis algorithms, pre-clinical and clinical applications highlighting the validation and applicability of novel methods and concepts. This meeting is unique in the sense that it brings together researchers working at all levels of this multi-disciplinary effort and has historically been providing the echo-system that has been feeding other more specialized areas and applications. Optical coherence tomography, photoacoustics, diffuse correlation spectroscopy have all spun out of this meeting and now stand-alone application areas such as functional near-infrared spectroscopy of the brain emerged.
