FASEB SRC — The TGF-β Superfamily: Signaling in Development and Disease
09 Jul 2017 - 14 Jul 2017 • Lisbon, Portugal
Abstract:
This SRC is an important and unique scientific conference where the pivotal role of TGF-β family members, including TGF-βs, nodal, activins, BMPs, and GDFs, in developmental, homeostatic, and pathological processes is explored through formal talks, poster sessions, and interactive and intensive scientific discussion sessions. Expansion of this field into previously uncharted areas of biology and human pathogenesis is exemplary, and in part, due to high throughput efforts that serendipitously bring scientists to the world of TGF-β. Program topics include tissue morphogenesis in development and disease, signaling networks and crosstalk, inflammation, vasculature and tissue transformation, tissue microenvironment dynamics in disease, therapeutic frontiers of TGF-β signaling, and homeostatic and metabolic control of growth and disease. This conference will seek to strengthen interactions between those scientists studying molecular mechanisms and those studying development and disease, and will welcome scientists who recently entered the TGF-β field. The conference program planned so far is truly global and represents the breadth of TGF-β family biology. A significant number of submitted abstracts will be selected for short talks. The oral presentations together with three poster sessions and the recreational afternoon sessions will ensure a good blend between young and more advanced investigators, students and postdoctoral fellows that can use this time productively towards building collaborations and scientific exchanges.

Champalimaud Research Symposium 2017 - Physiology: From Development to Disease
09 Oct 2017 - 11 Oct 2017 • Lisbon, Portugal
Abstract:
The 2017 Champalimaud Research Symposium, with the theme “Physiology: from development to disease” will be held in Lisbon, Portugal from the 9th to the 11th of October 2017. The Symposium will be a single-track scientific meeting with 14 invited speakers.  It will focus on modern physiology in development, aging, immunity and cancer, bridging cutting edge biology research with disease oriented research, and will feature a keynote lecture from Professor Bob Horvitz, winner of the 2002 Prize in Physiology or Medicine, shared with Sydney Brenner and John Sulston, “for their discoveries concerning genetic regulation of organ development and programmed cell death”.
