EMBL Course: Advanced training with Oxford Nanopore Technologies
14 Jan 2019 - 18 Jan 2019 • Heidelberg, Germany
Abstract:
The goal of this course is to teach nanopore sequencing using the Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) platform. We will start with an introduction into ONT technology and devices, with the goal of covering end to end workflows for the preparation and analysis of human and yeast samples using whole genome and barcoded cDNA sequencing approaches. This course will cover the wet lab preparation of libraries from genomic DNA and total RNA, with a focus on the critical steps and potential pitfalls and understanding what constitutes a ‘good’ sample for purpose of best results using the technology. The training includes an overview of the MinKNOW GUI for GridION and MinION devices. We then cover methods available for basecalling and analysis of samples for structural variants and differential gene expression, using both Oxford Nanopore and open source tools.

ACAT 2019 — 19th International Workshop on Advanced Computing and Analysis Techniques in Physics Research
11 Mar 2019 - 15 Mar 2019 • Saas-Fee, Switzerland
Abstract:
The 19th edition of ACAT will bring together experts to explore and confront the boundaries of computing, automated data analysis, and theoretical calculation technologies, in particle and nuclear physics, astronomy and astrophysics, cosmology, accelerator science and beyond. ACAT provides a unique forum where these disciplines overlap with computer science, allowing for the exchange of ideas and the discussion of cutting-edge computing, data analysis and theoretical calculation technologies in fundamental physics research. There is a fundamental shift occurring in how computing is used in research in general and data analysis in particular. The abundance of inexpensive, powerful, easy to use computing power in the form of CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, etc., has changed the role of computing in physics research over the last decade. The rise of new techniques, like deep learning and in the near future, quantum computing, means the changes promise to keep coming. Please join us to explore these future changes, and learn about new algorithms and ideas and trends in scientific computing physics. Most of all, join us for the discussions and the sharing of expertise in the field.

PITM2019 — Poland IT Meeting 2019
06 Jun 2019 - 07 Jun 2019 • Warsaw, Poland
Abstract:
Poland IT Meeting is the one and only networking event in Poland. The meeting is dedicated to people creating IT industry. As in previous years, formula targets institutional clients sector (retail, logistics, finances, energetics, industry, etc.) via system integrators, resellers, distributors and producers (hardware, software, service). The event is made for building direct relationships, above all. It creates the opportunity to maximize the number of meetings thanks to a personal calendar - within two days you can have more than 30 official meetings in the formula '1 on 1' and even the second time in unofficial (lunches, evening gala). Thanks to the unique convention and supporting mobile application for planning business conversations, each participant saves time! New contacts are new opportunities. How much does it cost us to build a lasting relationship, not to mention maintaining it? One can not forget that this is an opportunity to optimize the budget allocated to the improvement of the IT area. People arriving at Poland IT Meeting have already built a calendar of specific, valuable meetings with business partners, thanks to which they do not waste time planning appointments during the event.
