23rd Annual Review Meeting: Hot Topics in Organic Chemistry - from the Bench to Industry
01 Dec 2016 - 01 Dec 2026 • London, United Kingdom
Abstract:
The 23rd Annual Review Meeting: Hot Topics in Organic Chemistry – from the Bench to Industry, organised by the SCI Young Chemists’ Panel, will address key areas of cutting-edge contemporary synthetic organic chemistry. An exciting line-up of leading early career academics will deliver a series of review lectures covering a range of topics: C-H activation, organocatalysis, natural product synthesis, frustrated Lewis pair(s) and new fragments in drug discovery. The meeting will deliver a comprehensive overview of the material, highlighting new methods and reviewing the latest applications and concepts in these areas. Particular attention will be given to demystifying those techniques that would be less familiar to an organic chemistry audience, with a focus on (potential) industrial application. The review lectures will be supported by the keynote speaker, Prof Jonathan Clayden from the University of Bristol.

Organofluorine Chemistry: Synthetic Methods and Applications
09 Feb 2018 • London, United Kingdom
Abstract:
The incorporation of one or more fluorine atoms into a compound can have a dramatic effect on its chemical and physical properties, and fluorinated molecules are of considerable importance in a wide range of industries including pharmaceuticals, medical imaging, agrochemicals, plastics, polymers and electronics. The aim of this symposium is to highlight recent advances in synthetic methodology for the controlled introduction of fluorine into organic molecules, and to showcase its application to alter the structural and physical properties of molecules. Leading academics from the UK and Europe will present their latest research on the synthesis and application of fluorinated organic molecules, and experienced speakers from the pharmaceutical industry will provide insights into the application of organofluorine compounds to challenging real-world problems.

OPR&D — Organic Process Research & Development
23 Apr 2018 - 25 Apr 2018 • Clearwater Beach, United States
Abstract:
Unlike other conferences, practically all our speakers are experts from industry, which means the ideas and information you take home will be directly applicable to your own work. The smaller numbers at our conferences create a more intimate atmosphere. You will enjoy plenty of opportunities to meet and network with speakers and fellow attendees during the reception, sit-down lunches and extended coffee breaks in a relaxed and informal environment. Together, you can explore the different strategies and tactics evolving to meet today’s challenges.

Photoredox Catalysis for Novel Organic Reactions
24 Apr 2018 - 26 Apr 2018 • Potsdam, Germany
Abstract:
Organic photocatalysis is certainly one of the synthesis tools which have the potential to change the face of organic chemistry. Recent literature describes that more and more “novel” simple reactions previously thought to be kinetically impossible are enabled. This also includes so-called uphill reactions where endothermicity is compensated by photon energy. This symposium intends to catch this trend in a systematic way. The diverse communities who are working on new organic reactions, synthesizing new photocatalysts or designing devices and processes to optimize the chemical engineering of photocatalysis are intended to meet and exchange the newest information out of their research lab. The overall aim is to harvest the currently accessible full potential of organic photocatalysis by exchanging thoughts and concepts. The symposium hotel is located in Potsdam near Berlin, directly on the banks of the Griebnitzsee. The number of participants is limited to around 50 including 20 invited speakers and the program is designed specifically to allow sufficient time for discussions and a stimulating exchange of thoughts and ideas.

MACRO18 — World Polymer Congress
01 Jul 2018 - 05 Jul 2018 • Carins, Australia
Abstract:
The World Polymer Congress (MACRO 18) will be held in Australia’s far north Queensland from 1 July to 5 July 2018. Co-convenors, Professor Martina Stenzel (University of New South Wales); and Professor Sebastien Perrier, Monash-Warwick Chair in Polymer Chemistry, The University of Warwick, Monash University.

Confirmed plenary speakers include:

Professor Paula Hammond, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

Over the years, the MACRO conference has developed a strong reputation for bringing together the latest polymer research from top international polymer scientists. In 2018, we will again welcome a number of leading Plenary and Keynote Speakers from around the world and also a very large number of contributors to what promises to be another exciting forum. We would like to extend a particular welcome to early career researchers and in particular students and postdocs, who are key to the future development of our discipline.

The program covers all areas of polymer science and engineering, including synthesis, characterisation, processing, modeling and materials. A large number of sessions will also cover topics at the interface between polymer science and other disciplines that address a range of important issues faced by our modern society, for instance in medicine, energy and the environment. Such a varied programme shows how multidisciplinary polymer science has become and how collaborations across fields are the best approach to tackle today’s challenges.

The reputation of MACRO events goes further than great science; they are also famous for their warm and convivial atmosphere. In 2018, we will have a busy social schedule, starting with a welcome reception and extending to a number of special events throughout the conference that will highlight Australian heritage and the region of Cairns, including of course the Great Barrier Reef, to the conference banquet.

BiPoCo 2018 - 4th International Conference on Bio-based Polymers and Composites
02 Sep 2018 - 06 Sep 2018 • Balatonfüred, Hungary
Abstract:
Our first International Conference on Bio-based Polymers and Composites (BiPoCo) was organized in 2012 focusing on the characterization, modification and application of biopolymers. The success of the conference initiated the organization of BiPoCo 2014 in Visegrd and the BiPoCo 2016 meeting in Szeged. The scope of the conference was extended with topics on smart, nano-structured systems for controlled molecular release and particular attention was paid to the biomedical application of polymers. The positive feedback given by the participants of the BiPoCo 2016 meeting encouraged us to organize the conference for the fourth time in 2018 with a renewed scope reflecting the current trends in the synthesis and application of biopolymers.
