Résumé:
Like previous editions of ESM, the 2020 School aims at providing a thorough understanding of magnetism based on a broad series of fundamental lectures, while offering the latest insights into up-to-date aspects of magnetism with lectures focusing on a special topic. The topic covered in 2020 is Magnetism and Societal Challenges. The objective is to cover a wide range of fundamental to functional phenomena, to serve as a critical evaluation of the use of Magnetism to address societal challenges. The 2020 School will have a special format to achieve this objective, sharing time between academic lectures and project work in small teams. The School will be an opportunity for young scientists and lecturers from various fields to meet, share their expertise and build a network.

Organisateur:
J-PARC, RCNP-Osaka, ELPH-Tohoku, KEK-IINAS, ASRC JAEA, ANPhA, RIKEN Nishina Center and GP-PU of Tohoku Univ.
Résumé:
The school will have several lectures and topical talks on strangeness nuclear physics as well as other related and wider subjects from hadron to cold atom physics. We believe that such wider discussions are useful for young physicists and also to researches conducted at accelerator facilities for hadron beams such as J-PARC (Japan), GSI and FAIR (Germany), RCNP (Japan) and for electron beams as CEBAF at Jefferson Lab (USA), MAMI-C at Mainz University (Germany) and ELPH at Tohoku University (Japan) etc. Lectures by leading physicists will overview related subjects both from experiment and theory, and topical talks on recent progress and future prospects of the fields will be also given.

Winter school on Physics with Trapped Charged Particles
25 jan 2021 - 05 fév 2021 • Les Houches, France
Organisateur:
Les Houches Physics School
Résumé:
The school will cover various topics of physics with trapped charged particles. Lectures will cover basic trap physics and recent developments in Penning traps, Paul traps etc., collective behavior and (non-neutral) plasmas, as well as applications for fundamental physics, precision spectroscopy, quantum information, frequency standards, antimatter. Lectures will be systematically complemented by a series of tutorials/exercice sessions. Two poster sessions where participants present their work, and a half-day visit to CERN will also be organised. The participants will each receive a copy of the textbook that is written for the school and is based on the school held in 2015. The school is aimed primarily at PhD students and post docs in the field.

51st IFF Spring School — IFF spring school 2021: Quantum Technology
01 mar 2021 - 12 mar 2021 • Jülich, Allemagne
Résumé:
Based on quantum coherence, data can be protected in a completely secure way that makes eavesdropping impossible. Given the explosive growth of cybercrime and espionage, this is a highly strategic capability. Quantum technologies will also give rise to simulation techniques well beyond current capabilities for material and chemical synthesis, and to clocks and sensors with unprecedented sensitivity and accuracy, with potential impact for navigation, the synchronisation of future smart networks and medical diagnostics.

School of Solid State Physics: Dynamics of Electrons in Atomic and Molecular Nanoclusters
24 oct 2021 - 30 oct 2021 • Erice, Italie
Résumé:
Electron dynamics governs a wide range of important effects in nanoscience. Nanoclusters, as important testbed systems for exploring and developing quantum size effects, novel materials, and reaction pathways, exhibit a range of phenomena which are highly sensitive to electron mobility, response, transfer, emission and attachment, direct and exchange interactions, correlations, etc. The aim of the present workshop is to bring together researchers in adjacent fields in order to examine recent and future developments and to enhance the connection between different branches of research. To keep the discussion focused, it will concentrate on free clusters and related systems.
