Opérateurs de Dirac avec champ magnétique sur des domaines — Dirac operators on domains with magnetic fields
08 oct 2019 - 01 nov 2019 • CIRM – Luminy, France
Organisateur:
Centre International de Rencontres Mathématiques (CIRM)
Résumé:
The mathematical problem we plan to tackle takes its source in questions concerning graphene and the estimate of energy gaps. The model we study is a two dimensional massless Dirac operator on a regular bounded domain. We are interested in estimating the asymptotic of the gap at zero. More precisely, we want to derive the asymptotics for large magnetic field of the first negative eigenvalue and the first positive eigenvalue.

Organisateur:
UC Santa Barbara, Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics
Résumé:
The fields of spintronics, quantum magnetism, topological matter, and quantum criticality have seen progress with breakthroughs in concepts, techniques, and materials. The unifying goals of these fields are to understand novel collective effects that arise in quantum condensed matter systems with common underlying physics, often united through topology and common symmetries. Despite these common goals, these areas of research are still largely unconnected. This program will offer an opportunity for synergies and defining of new directions.
Sujets:
spin and heat transport through magnetic insulators, magnon Bose-Einstein condensation and spin superfluidity, topological-charge transport, magnon-based quantum information and computation, Dirac, Weyl and other topologically protected metallic physics in topological matter (including ferromagnetic and anti-ferromagnetic systems), quantum spintronic effects in these systems, strong-correlation effects in spin and heat transport in these and other related materials, and hydrodynamics at quantum critical points with unconventional heat and spin transport

Atomic Physics 2019 - Focus: Ultrafast chirality and topology of light and matter
18 nov 2019 - 22 nov 2019 • Dresden, Allemagne
Organisateur:
Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems
Résumé:
One can think of chirality or topology as properties introducing an additional degree of freedom of geometrical origin, such as handedness or topological invariant. Does this extra degree of freedom lead to new properties of optical response in ultrafast and non-linear domain? The focus of this year's Atomic Physics workshop is on the role of chirality and topology in non-linear and ultrafast light-matter interaction. The topics will include shaping chiral and topological properties of light and using this tailored light to shape and probe chiral and topological properties of matter. The workshop will take place this year from Tuesday noon to Friday noon. As in the past years a fraction of the slots are devoted to presentations about topics of general interest in atomic physics.

9th International Conference on Quantum Simulation and Quantum Walks
20 jan 2020 - 24 jan 2020 • CIRM – Luminy, France
Organisateur:
Centre International de Rencontres Mathématiques (CIRM)
Résumé:
This is the 9th in series of international conference focussing on aspects of quantum walks and quantum simulation. Quantum simulation has recently established itself as an area of study in quantum physics that merges fundamental and applied questions. Such an interaction results in a more operational understanding of aspects of quantum mechanics in terms of nature description. The idea to simulate the dynamics of a quantum system by a quantum device was first introduced by Richard Feynman and developed in different frameworks, from mathematics to Computer Science and fundamental physics.

ISQA — Information Security in the Quantum Age
16 mar 2020 - 20 mar 2020 • Okinawa, Japon
Organisateur:
OIST Graduate University
Résumé:
We would like to announce the workshop ‘Information Security in the Quantum Age’, which will be held from the 16-20th March 2020 at OIST Graduate University on the beautiful island of Okinawa. Uncompromisable information security can be only achieved by relying on unshakeable scientific principles in mathematics or physics. It is therefore directly connected to progress in fundamental research in both of these area and requires constant progress to advance. However, to translate these results into useable technology and to maintain everyday security within the current technology, is a just as important goal to achieve. This meeting will connect Japanese and international  forefront researchers in experimental and theoretical approaches, to discuss the current status, make valuable connections and outline required future progress.

Model and Material Advances in Multicomponent Correlated Systems
12 oct 2020 - 16 oct 2020 • UC Santa Barbara, États-Unis
Organisateur:
Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP)
Résumé:
In the last decade a number of experimental and theoretical discoveries have caused a notable revival of interest in systems with large local Hilbert spaces which realize a variety of intriguing and largely unexplored phenomena such as non-Fermi-liquid behavior, exotic quantum criticality, orbitally selective Mott physics, multipolar/hidden orders and more. While many models have been proposed for each of these phenomena, a single framework to understand the systems with multiple degrees of freedom and, consequently, richer order parameters and richer quasiparticles, is missing.

The Physics of Modularity
01 dec 2020 - 04 dec 2020 • UC Santa Barbara, États-Unis
Organisateur:
Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP)
Résumé:
Modularity is at the heart of many deep results in mathematics--from the proof of Fermat’s last theorem to moonshine to the Langlands correspondence. At the same time, modular group representations and automorphic forms underlie many interesting physical phenomena in quantum field theory and string theory, including understanding of dualities, boundary conditions, and supersymmetric black holes, among other things. This conference will bring together physicists and mathematicians to discuss emerging connections between a web of fundamental objects in physics and mathematics, united in the crucial role played by modularity.
Sujets:
new moonshines and mock modular forms; vertex operator algebras arising in supersymmetric gauge theories; topological invariants of 3- and 4-manifolds; topological QFTs and topological phases in condensed matter physics; topological string theory, Donaldson-Thomas theory, and enumerative geometry; scattering amplitudes in string theory; 2d conformal field theories, the modular bootstrap, and connections to 3d quantum gravity

Entangled Quantum States of Matter: Classification, Creation, Manipulation, Detection
21 jui 2021 - 24 jui 2021 • UC Santa Barbara, États-Unis
Organisateur:
Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP)
Résumé:
This conference will explore many aspects of entangled quantum states of matter, with an eye towards their eventual experimental realization. These include non-Fermi liquids, symmetry-protected topological states, and topologically-ordered quantum matter such as gapped and gapless quantum spin liquids. Some of these states harbor nontrivial boundary or edge modes which will also be highlighted. Different topics will be covered including: the classification of entangled topological states which provide a roadmap of what is possible; investigations on how to engineer models built with realistic ingredients guided by theoretical explorations of their phase diagrams; and proposals for the right observables to detect and manipulate these states which can bring them closer from an abstract idea to reality. This conference will bring together experts on many aspects of highly-entangled quantum matter and help connect experts on mathematical aspects of classification and those with numerical expertise that provide information on phase diagrams with experimentalists striving to engineer these states in the lab.
