Zusammenfassung: In the last years the AdS/CFT correspondence has opened a whole new avenue for the study of phenomena and systems that were not accessible to an analytic treatment, due to its non-perturbative, strongly coupled behaviour. The correspondence emerges as a new tool to understand analytically the dynamics of gauge field theories thanks to its weak/strong duality nature.

Of special interest is the case of QCD and its cousins, and concretely the quark-gluon plasma, where the correspondence has shed new light on the understanding of the experimental results obtained at RHIC. Recently, the application of holographic techniques to condensed matter systems has also been considered.

The workshop will address applications of AdS/CFT to collective phenomena arising in these contexts.

Zusammenfassung: The official part of the Workshop will consist of about 30 invited talks. Topics include all sorts of nanomagnetic and superconducting research: molecular magnets, spintronics, spin and SQUID based quantum computing, novel magnetic and superconducting phases, low-dimensional systems, etc.

No registration fee is anticipated. All participants will be responsible for their travel and living expenses

Zusammenfassung: The Workshop on Quantum Gauge Theories and Ultracold Atoms concerns four areas of physics: physics of ultracold atoms and molecules and quantum information on one side, and quantum field theories used in high energy and condensed matter physics on the other. Ultracold atoms are in the center of interest in atomic, molecular and optical physics and quantum optics since more than 20 years. In the recent years the physics of ultracold atoms has proven to be the perfect playground of quantum engineering (i.e. preparation, manipulation and detection) of macro-, meso- and microscopic states of quantum matter with an unprecedented precision and control.
