| 1.USEQIP 2012 — Undergraduate School on Experimental Quantum Information Processing 2012 | | Dates | 28 May 2012 → 08 Jun 2012 | [ID=474242] | | Location | Waterloo, Ontario, Canada | | Abstract | A two-week program on the theoretical and experimental study of quantum information aimed primarily at students completing their third undergraduate year. The lectures and experiments are geared toward students in engineering, physics, chemistry, mathematics and computer science, though all interested students are invited to apply. The program has space for 20 students. Accommodations and meals are covered, and funding is available for travel expenses. The summer school is staffed by the faculty of the Institute for Quantum Computing, a multidisciplinary research centre at the University of Waterloo and an internationally recognized leader in the development of quantum information processors. The two-week program will consist of lectures introducing quantum information theory and experimental approaches to quantum devices, followed by hands-on exploration of QIP using the experimental facilities of the institute. | | Weblink | http://iqc.uwaterloo.ca/news-events/conferences/useqip2012 |

It is offered as a satellite meeting to the Annual Congress of the CAP. | | Topics | Gravitation, Cosmology & Astrophysics, Quantum Gravity & Strings, Subatomic & Mathematical Physics, Quantum Physics & Information, Condensed Matter & General Theory | | Weblink | http://theorycanada7.ca | | Related subject(s) | Multidisciplinary Events in Physics; Astronomy, Astrophysics and Cosmology |
| 3.Relativistic Quantum Information | | Dates | 25 Jun 2012 → 28 Jun 2012 | [ID=474240] | | Location | Waterloo, Ontario, Canada | | Abstract | Over the past few years, a new field of high research intensity has emerged, known as Relativistic Quantum Information (RQI). The field of RQI aims to understand the relationship between special and general relativity, and quantum information. In particular, so-called quantum entanglement bits (e-bits) are a necessary resource in all of quantum communication and quantum computation. One of the key goals of the field of RQI is to develop a theory of e-bits in realistic spacetimes described by Lorentzian manifolds. This offers exciting new challenges because it combines information theory with quantum theoretic and general relativistic questions. Deep questions concerning the relationship between information processing and the structure of spacetime will be considered. This conference will bring together the most prominent researchers in RQI, as well as some of their best postdoctoral fellows and graduate students. The workshop is timely because of newly emerging prospects for experimental tests of phenomena of relativistic quantum information, for example, using quantum communication with satellite-based instruments or Berry's phase tests of the Unruh effect. | | Topics | Quantum foundations, quantum gravity, quantum information | | Weblink | http://www.perimeterinstitute.ca/n/Events/Relativistic_Quantum_Information/Relativistic_Quantum_Information/ | | | | | 4.QCSYS 2012 — Quantum Cryptography School for Young Students 2012 | | Dates | 13 Aug 2012 → 17 Aug 2012 | [ID=474274] | | Location | Waterloo, Ontario, Canada | | Abstract | The Quantum Cryptography School for Young Students (QCSYS) is an exciting week-long program offered to students in Grades 11 and 12. This year the program will run through August 13 - 17, 2012. The program is run by the Institute for Quantum Computing in conjunction with the University of Waterloo.Students will be given a first-hand look into one of the most exciting topics in contemporary science - quantum cryptography. Not only will students be exposed to cutting-edge topics like quantum physics and cryptography - they will have the opportunity to meet some of the most renowned researchers the field has to offer. In addition, students will get a tour of quantum computing and quantum cryptography experiments. High school students ages 15 and older are eligible to apply. | | Weblink | http://iqc.uwaterloo.ca/conferences/qcsys2012/qcsys-home | | Related subject(s) | Courses and Events for Physics Students; Applied Maths: Cryptography and Information Security | | | |
