After the 1997 merger, Hughes Research Laboratories was legally renamed “HRL Laboratories, LCC” with GM and Raytheon co-owners. In 2007, Raytheon sold its stake in HRL, though it still maintained research and contractual relations. A history of laser development and applications at Hughes/Raytheon will be presented as well as current laser work being accomplished at Raytheon. abstract: RIAO-OPTILAS is a periodic scientific Iberoamerican meeting that arose from the merging of two independent events: RIAO ReuniĂłn Iberoamericana de Ă“ptica and OPTILAS Encuentro Latinoamericano de Ă“ptica, LĂ¡seres y sus Aplicaciones. It is dedicated to Iberoamerican research activities in optics, lasers and related issues. Although it has an Iberoamerican bias, participants from outside the region are very much welcome. The last RIAO/OPTILAS (http://riao-optilas.ifi.unicamp.br/) was held in Campinas (Brazil), on 21-26 October, 2007, and the preceding one on Isla Margarita (Venezuela), in 2004. Before that Argentina (2001) and Colombia (1998) hosted previous editions. As for RIAO, it was held in Mexico (1995) and Spain (1992), the latter being the country where it was held for the very first time, in 1992. The last independent edition of OPTILAS was in Cuba in 1995.
