8.ICUSD — International Conference on Ultrafast Structural Dynamics
 Dates 19 Mar 2012 → 21 Mar 2012
[ID=457313] Go to top of page
 LocationBerlin, Germany
Abstract The meeting covers the new and rapidly developing field of structure research in the ultrafast, i.e., femto- to picosecond time domain. Light induced structural dynamics are mapped in real-time by techniques such as x-ray diffraction, electron diffraction, and x-ray absorption, using femtosecond x-ray and/or electron pulses synchronized with optical pulses. Such structure research is complemented by nonlinear multidimensional spectroscopy to observe microscopic interactions and measure their strength. Structural dynamics in a very broad range of systems is elucidated and basic physical, chemical and biological processes are analyzed in a quantitative way, including theoretical calculations and simulations. Addressing such complex scientific problems requires the combination of knowledge and methodology from different fields in an interdisciplinary approach. The meeting serves as a platform for discussing the latest research in this area, for establishing new cooperations and for giving early stage researchers the opportunity to present their work and get in touch with a broader community. Topics covered include short-wavelength and x-ray optics, nonlinear spectroscopy, physics, chemistry, materials science, and photobiology.

Abstract AIO is a must-attend event for anyone within industry who utilizes optical sensing for process monitoring, process automation, quality control, safety, environmental monitoring, and/or material identification. Optical measurement technologies are prevalent throughout industry. The second installment of the Applied Industrial Optics (AIO) meeting will address innovative applications of applied optics in industry. A wide variety of industries and academic institutions were represented at the 2011 event, which highlighted challenging applications from the food and beverage, pharmaceutical, defense, petrochemical, chemical, and medical industries. For 2012, we invite papers that combine cutting edge optical technologies and real world case studies which highlight how the technology has been applied. In addition, exciting advances in optical components or subsystems, which have been identified as promising new technologies within the field of applied optics, are also solicited. We are particularly interested in applications with extreme requirements or systems that must operate in harsh environments; two areas where optical sensors are often, the only viable solution. For example, applications pertaining to the PAT initiative, process optimization of biofuels synthesis, novel real-time non-contact foodstuff quality control and security applications are highly encouraged.

 LocationMamaia, Romania
Abstract The International Committee on Ultra-High Intensity Lasers (ICUIL) is actively concerned with the growth and vitality of the entire international field of ultra-high intensity laser science, technologies, and education. Our goals are to provide a venue for discussions, among representatives of high-intensity laser facilities and members of user communities, on international collaborative activities such as developing the next generation of ultra-high intensity lasers, exploring new areas of fundamental and applied research, and forming a global research network for access to advanced facilities by users. Our primary strategy is to promote unity and coherence in the field by convening conferences dedicated to ultrahigh-intensity lasers and their applications.

38.SO'2012 — 5th International Conference 'Singular Optics'
 Dates 16 Sep 2012 → 21 Sep 2012
[ID=457583] Go to top of page
 LocationSevastopol, Ukraine
Abstract The purpose of the conference is to provide the discussions of novel approaches and advances in the field of singular optics, optical devices based on transformation of angular momentum of light, high-technology applications based on singular optics and vortices, optical fiber networks, etc. The techniques of singular optics (including fiber and nonlinear singular optics and their applications) contribute into promising and rapidly developing area of optical information technology. Such techniques serve for solving diverse applied problems ranging from industrial quality control to modern and advance telecommunications, and life sciences. There exists no other conference focused just on the singular optics approaches (theoretical, computing and experimental). That is why this conference is a unique possibility to highlight novel concepts and developments related to the physics of optical singularities, and to discuss the recent progress in their applications. Recent advances in trapping, transportation and rotation of microparticles, optical-vortex cryptography, in optical transmitting and processing information will be represented as well as conceptual problems connected with nontrivial structure of complex optical fields, their control and manipulation. This conference continues a chain of international conferences on singular optics: International Conference on Singular Optics in Partenit, Crimea, Ukraine (1997) [SPIE Proc. V.3487 (1998)]; Second International Conference on Singular Optics (Optical Vortices): Fundamentals and Applications in Alushta, Crimea, Ukraine (2000) [SPIE Proc. V.4403 (2001)]; NATO Advanced Research Workshop "Singular Optics 2003" in Kiev, Ukraine [JOPA: Pure & Apl. Opt., Spec. Iss., V.6, No.5 (2004)]; Fourth International Conference "Singular Optics (Optical Vortices): Fundamentals and Applications SO'2008" in Alushta, Crimea, Ukraine (2008) [J. Opt. A: Pure Appl. Opt. Vol. 11, No. 9 (2009)]. Topics to be covered: ‒ Fundamentals of singular optics ‒ Singular beams in free propagation ‒ Generation of optical singularities ‒ Broadband optical singularities ‒ Fibers and crystals singular optics ‒ Nonlinear singular optics ‒ Dynamic singular optics ‒ Singularities in partially coherent fields ‒ Singular optics technique and metrology ‒ Applications of singular optics
