abstract: The symposium on “Advances in Semiconducting Materials” covers a wide range of materials technology communities covering the full academic/industrial spectrum. The conference provides a productive atmosphere for discussions between scientists working on the fundamental material and physical problems and industrial researchers interested in the influence of specific fundamental problems on the fabrication process of semiconducting materials and devices. The participants will have an opportunity to exchange their ideas and experiences, to discuss the future directions of this expanding field, and to create new personal contacts.

abstract: The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers studying optical properties of nanostructures such as self-assembled quantum dots and colloidal nanoparticles. The workshop will cover both semiconductor and metal material systems. The focus will be on various optical phenomena in quantum dots, nanocrystals, and hybrid semiconductor/metal nanosystems. Special emphasis will be given to applications of coupled quantum systems in quantum optics, quantum information sciences, and nanotechnology. The frame of the workshop is planned to be small (around 70 participants) to provide a productive scientific environment for interesting discussions and exchange of ideas. We expect five exciting days of lectures given by highly recognized speakers from the field of quantum information with quantum dots, fundamentals and applications of colloidal nanocrystal molecules and super-crystals, spin effects in coupled dots, plasmon-exciton interactions, and theoretical models of electrons, excitons and plasmons in quantum dots. The organizers reserve a few open slots for a `Late News Session' that will include invited talks on new, cutting-edge developments in the field of optics of nanostructures. We encourage young researchers to apply for participation. The MPI has certain funds available for support of living and travel expenses of young researchers.

abstract: The purpose of the Summer School is to provide a qualified overview on the rapidly developing areas of spintronics, magnetoelectronics and nanomagnetism.The lectures will be oriented on last year PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. The scientific scope will include important topics, such as half-metals and diluted magnetic semiconductors, hybrid systems, spindependenttransport properties, effects of finite temperatures, spin dynamics, magnetism of nanostructures, relativistic effects, and electron correlations.

Most of the device fabrication and testing will be carried out in an integrated inert glovebox system. Use of atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) with soft materials and the information found in phase images of composites.
