| 10.AIO — Applied Industrial Optics: Spectroscopy, Imaging, & Metrology |
| Dates | 24 Jun 2012 → 28 Jun 2012 | [ID=457537] |
| Location | Monterey, United States |
| Abstract | AIO is a must-attend event for anyone within industry who utilizes optical sensing for process monitoring, process automation, quality control, safety, environmental monitoring, and/or material identification. Optical measurement technologies are prevalent throughout industry. The second installment of the Applied Industrial Optics (AIO) meeting will address innovative applications of applied optics in industry. A wide variety of industries and academic institutions were represented at the 2011 event, which highlighted challenging applications from the food and beverage, pharmaceutical, defense, petrochemical, chemical, and medical industries. For 2012, we invite papers that combine cutting edge optical technologies and real world case studies which highlight how the technology has been applied. In addition, exciting advances in optical components or subsystems, which have been identified as promising new technologies within the field of applied optics, are also solicited. We are particularly interested in applications with extreme requirements or systems that must operate in harsh environments; two areas where optical sensors are often, the only viable solution. For example, applications pertaining to the PAT initiative, process optimization of biofuels synthesis, novel real-time non-contact foodstuff quality control and security applications are highly encouraged. |

The objective of this conference is to bring together international researchers from academia, hospitals and clinics, national laboratories, and industries to jointly examine how new optical technologies has revolutionized existing procedures in medical practice, provide new knowledge in biology, and pave the way for new pharmaceutical and medical procedure developments. The explicit goals of this high-impact meeting are to encourage scientific exchange between biomedical optics researchers from academic labs, clinical research, commercial enterprises and national laboratories, to critically assess the state of our field and to set goals for the future. There are 9 technical sessions currently scheduled to provide a broad and comprehensive coverage of the biomedical photonics fields while giving in-depth examination of several rapidly developing subfields. Some sessions are technology focused, while others are biomedical need focused. |
