Zusammenfassung: Mechanical aspects of nano technology stretch from increased strength of construction materials over the controlled reduction of the shear resistance of tribological applications to the conditioning of surfaces in either adhesive or anti-adhesive way. Nano-effects can be induced by the introduction of nanoparticles into conventional materials such as metals or polymers. Here technological questions like particle dispersion or aggregation have to be answered. Additionally nano-effects are achievable by material conversion due to high stresses or thermal treatment.

The conference targets fundamental as well as technological issues of nano-effects with emphasis on mechanical properties.

Zusammenfassung: This bi-annual event held on alternate years in collaboration with its sister event in the USA - The Aerospace Mechanisms Symposium - the European Space Mechanisms and Tribology Symposium, ESMATS, regularly attracts around 200 space mechanism designers and engineers, space scientists and satellite project and programme managers from around the world. ESMATS 2007 in Liverpool, England, attracted delegates from most of the countries of Europe, The United States, Japan, China, India, Brazil, Australia and Canada to name but a few. It will be the first time in its history since the ESMATS was originally held in Neuchatel, Switzerland in 1983 that this prestigious 3-day symposium will be held in Austria, where it is being hosted in the city of Vienna, organised by Austrian Aerospace.
